The Missouri WIC program issued new door decals to be placed at all store entrances where WIC customers can enter. Please ensure that these are visible where WIC customers enter. You may order additional WIC Door Decals using the Missouri WIC Retailer Order Form

Moratorium on WIC Retailer Authorization

The Missouri WIC program is in a moratorium period on new retailer authorization through October 1. This is due to the program transitioning from offline to online technology and conducting reauthorization in the summer of 2025. If you have questions, please contact us at MOWICVendorGroup@health.mo.gov or 573-751-6204.

Reauthorization

The Missouri WIC program mailed reauthorization packets to retailers. Retailers must reapply by completing new applications for each store. Applications must be completed and sent to the Missouri WIC program by July 15. Please contact the Missouri WIC program if you have any questions.

Annual Training

The 2025 Annual Retailer Training must be completed by August 1. Authorized retailers must complete the training and submit their completed certificate to mailto:MOWICVendorgroup@health.mo.gov.

Training Mode for Point of Sale (POS) Systems

The Missouri WIC program moved to online technology on May 1. The new technology does not allow POS systems to be put into training mode for cashiers to train. Therefore, the Missouri WIC program does not have training cards to send to retailers. Retailers can throw away their offline (chip) training cards. If you have any questions, please contact the Missouri WIC program.

Cashier Training

The Missouri WIC program encourages retailers to train all cashiers on how to complete a balance inquiry (BI), a WIC transaction and a WIC void (benefit reversal). During a monitoring visit by the state agency, an observation buy will be completed to determine if the cashier is able to complete a BI, a WIC transaction and a WIC void. If you would like instructions on how to complete a BI, a WIC transaction and a WIC void, please contact the Missouri WIC program, and we will send you instructions, or we can schedule Technical Assistance Training. Contact us at MOWICVendorGroup@health.mo.gov or 573-751-6204.

Approved Product List (APL) Updates

The Missouri WIC program continuously works to maintain the WIC Approved Product List (APL). Numerous products were added on May 12. Please ensure your APL is updated at least every 48 hours.

If your store receives new products or carries items not currently on the APL but you believe are eligible for WIC, please contact WICFoods@health.mo.gov to submit these items to the Missouri WIC program for consideration. Please share clear images of the label, including the UPC, size and ingredients, as indicated in the WIC Guidelines section of the WIC Retailer Manual.

Special Formula Tips for Pharmacies

The Missouri WIC program would like to provide some useful tips for pharmacies conducting WIC transactions for special formulas.

  • Complete a balance inquiry (BI) to ensure you ordered the correct formula and determine how many bottles or cans are needed. Do not worry about the dollar value; benefits are issued in units of measure.
  • Scan the barcode on the formula can. DO NOT scan the box UPC as it is not on the Missouri WIC Approved Product List (APL).
  • Scan each bottle individually. Do not use the multiplier key, as this can cause issues (e.g., removing benefits and locking up the system).
  • Try a regular lane if the pharmacy's POS system is not working.

If you have any issues or concerns, please contact us at MOWICVendorGroup@health.mo.gov or 573-751-6204.
