Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC)
Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care services are authorized through the Healthy Children and Youth Program to MO HealthNet fee-for-service recipients age 0 to 6 who meet private duty nursing eligibility requirements. PPEC provides multidisciplinary services including skilled nursing, personal care, speech, physical, and occupational therapy through a licensed PPEC facility.

Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC) Eligibility Requirements
- Be a Missouri resident
- Be birth to age 6
- Meet private duty nursing eligibility requirements, as established by MO HealthNet and authorized through the Healthy Children and Youth Program
- Be enrolled in MO HealthNet fee-for-service
- Require a 4-hour block of continuous skilled nursing care that can only be met by a licensed Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
- PPEC services ordered by a physician
Services Available through Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC)
Service Coordination is provided through Special Health Care Needs and includes:
- Evaluation and assessment of needs
- Identifying and accessing service providers
- Service plan development and implementation
- Coordination of services through resource identification and referral
- Family support
- Assisting in establishing a medical home
- Transition planning
Services authorized by Special Health Care Needs include the following and are provided by Medicaid providers through licensed PPEC facilities:
- Multidisciplinary services including:
- Skilled nursing
- Personal care
- Speech therapy
- Physical therapy
- Occupational therapy

Information for Providers
Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC) providers must have an active child care license through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and can then apply for a PPEC licensure through the Department of Health and Senior Services, Division of Regulation and Licensure. Once the PPEC provider is appropriately licensed, they must have an active provider agreement with the Department of Social Services, Missouri Medicaid Audit and Compliance.
