You may need to register with the Family Care Safety (FCSR) to be screened before you can care for children, seniors, or disabled persons. You might also need to register because state law requires it.

During the process to register you will provide personal information and pay a fee. There are two ways to register. Choose the best way for you.

• Register Online. It is quick and easy. You will need Internet access and a laptop or desktop computer. You will need a debit or credit card to pay the fee. The fee to register online is $15.00 plus a $0.55 processing fee.
• Complete and sign a Worker Registration form. Mail the signed form with a copy of your Social Security card and a check or money order for $15.00. Mail it to the address shown on the form. Mailed forms are worked in the order received.

Good Cause Waiver

Your background may prevent you from working in certain healthcare fields. If so, you may be able to apply for a Good Cause Waiver. The hiring restriction may be lifted if you show “good cause” in your application and your waiver is approved. Visit the Good Cause Waiver page to learn more.

Appeals

The FCSR checks seven sources of Missouri information. State law allows a limited appeal for the background results we reported. You have 30 days to appeal the accuracy of the transfer of information to the FCSR. The appeal must be in writing. The written appeal must include the following.

• The date of the screening in question
• Your name, date of birth, and Social Security Number
• Your mailing address and phone number
• A description of the information you believe to be incorrectly transferred.

Send your written appeal of the accurate transfer of information either by mail or attached to an email. Send by mail to Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Family Care Safety Registry, PO Box 570, Jefferson City, MO 65102. Or send by email to fcsr@health.mo.gov.

The FCSR appeal process does not change the substance of the background results. You must contact the state agency that maintains the information we reported to ask questions. You may also ask that state agency if they have an appeal process.
