Missouri's Senior Programs administers a diverse network of federal and state-funded programs. The bureau's primary mission is to provide older adults (aged 60 and older) and caregivers with the resources, training, and care they need to remain safe, healthy and independent in their own homes and communities. In some cases, limited funding also provides transportation and nutrition services to adults 18-59 with a disability.

Core Services and Programs

Through collaboration with Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) and various community partners, we ensure statewide access to essential supportive networks.

Older Americans Act Services

Senior Programs oversees information tailored by local AAAs to meet the needs of older adults and caregivers. 

  • Supportive Services: Includes crucial access services like transportation, information and assistance, and legal services, as well as in-home services such as personal care, homemaker assistance, and minor home repairs. 
  • Nutrition Services: Operates over 200 senior centers and meal sites providing congregate group meals, home-delivered meals for homebound individuals, and carryout options, in some areas. 
  • Health and Wellness: Provides programs focused on disease prevention, fall prevention, and chronic condition self-management. 
  • Family Caregiver Services: Offers respite care, support groups, training, and supplies for individuals caring for older adults, adults with disabilities 18-59,   children aged 17 and under, and individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia. 

Employment and Financial Assistance

  • Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP): Provides paid (minimum wage), part-time job training in non-profit or governmental agencies for unemployed, low-income, older adults (55+) looking to re-enter the workforce. 
  • Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA): Provides financial assistance to eligible low-income Medicare beneficiaries to lower the costs of their Part A, B, and D premiums, deductibles and co-pays. 

State-Funded Innovation and General Revenue Programs

  • Missouri Caregiver Program: Connects caregivers of individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or related dementias to specialized training, relief, and assistive technology. 
  • Naturalization Services: Statewide assistance helping senior legal immigrants and refugees with health barriers successfully navigate the U.S. citizenship process to obtain federal benefits.

Recognition Programs

  • Missouri Century Club: Honors and celebrates Missouri's centenarians by arranging personal letters of congratulations from the Governor upon reaching their 100th birthday.
