Brief Description

The Missouri State Public Health Laboratory conducts IgM antibody testing for various arboviruses including Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), Western Equine Encephalitis (WEE), California Encephalitis (CE) Group, and St. Louis encephalitis (SLE).

Methodology

EEE IgM, WEE IgM, SLE IgM, and CE antibody detection on single acute or convalescent serum using Indirect Immunofluorescence (IFA).

Testing is available only after consultation with the Arbovirus Program (573-751-6113 or (toll-free) 1-866-628-9891).

Specimen Collection

Collection kit contains one red-top blood collection tube, and freeze pillows.

At least 1 ml of serum

The ideal timing to collect acute serum is 3 to 10 days after onset of symptoms.

Storage/Transport

Serum should be stored and transported at refrigerated temperature and shipped on freeze packs if received within 5 days. If greater than 5 days serum should be frozen and shipped on dry ice.
