Welcome to the Electronic Reporting for Reportable Conditions in ShowMe WorldCare Resource Hub. Use these resources to stay up to date on all aspects of electronic reporting to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) as well as Missouri’s ShowMe WorldCare application.

Show Me WorldCare

What is ShowMe WorldCare

ShowMe WorldCare is a comprehensive reportable conditions system that can receive electronic reports from laboratories, health care providers, and other data submitters. Public health staff review incoming data and take appropriate action to reduce further spread and lessen the impact of these conditions. ShowMe WorldCare allows these staff to review for potential clusters or outbreaks and provide any necessary case management services to affected individuals.

ShowMe WorldCare Implementation Timeline

ShowMe WorldCare implementation will occur in three phases. Each phase will transition reportable conditions currently housed in three separate DHSS systems.

  • August 26, 2024 – Conditions previously managed in EpiTrax (COVID-19, Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome associated with COVID-19 [MIS-C], and Mpox) were implemented in ShowMe WorldCare.
  • October 21, 2024 – Environmental conditions currently managed in EnvSurv EXCEPT Lead were implemented in ShowMe WorldCare. This includes heavy metal poisoning conditions, occupational lung diseases, hyperthermia, hypothermia, and methemoglobinemia.
  • November 18, 2024 – Lead
  • February 2025 – Conditions currently managed in WebSurv or other databases (all other reportable conditions)

Who Needs to Report

Details of the individuals and entities that are required to report to public health are provided in 19 CSR 20.

What and When to Report

19 CSR 20 provides details of which conditions must be reported to public health and the reporting timeframes.

Where to Report

Some Missouri county or city jurisdictions have local ordinances requiring that reports be submitted to the local public health agency. Please contact the local agency regarding questions about reporting at the local level. The information below applies to reporting to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

How to Report

Missouri offers multiple options for laboratories, health care providers, and other data submitters to send information.

  • The following methods are compliant with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Promoting Interoperability Program for entities which need to meet those requirements. View information on registering intent for Promoting Interoperability and to initiate onboarding.
    • Electronic Laboratory Reporting (ELR) directly to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services
      • Currently the only conditions available for ELR onboarding are: Arsenic, Cadmium, Carbon Monoxide, Chemical, Copper, COVID-19, Mercury, Methemoglobinemia, MIS-C, Mpox, and Pesticide. Additional conditions will be added over time as ShowMe WorldCare is further implemented.
    • Electronic Case Reporting (eCR) through the APHL AIMS Platform (Association of Public Health Laboratories Informatics Messaging Services Platform) and using the RCKMS (Reportable Condition Knowledge Management System) for automated case reporting from an electronic health record (EHR) system
      • Currently the only conditions available for eCR onboarding are COVID-19, MIS-C, and Mpox. Additional conditions will be added over time as ShowMe WorldCare is further implemented.
  • Missouri accepts the following reporting methods but data submitters should be aware that these methods are NOT compliant with the CMS Promoting Interoperability Program. Certain methods may eventually be phased out as the ShowMe WorldCare system is more fully developed.
    • The Missouri Disease Reporting Online Portal (MODROP) is a method for reporting test results and case report information for submitters not yet onboarded to other electronic reporting methods.
      • The original MODROP portal was developed in conjunction with the EpiTrax application. A new version of MODROP is now available through ShowMe WorldCare.
      • Register for a portal account and access resources related to the portal. (Active users of the earlier version of MODROP were notified of the system transition via the email address linked to their MODROP account. These users were provided with new account credentials prior to the launch of ShowMe WorldCare in August 2024. If an individual needs to utilize MODROP and has not already received this information via email, a new request for an account must be submitted.)
      • The portal replaces paper CD-1 reporting to DHSS.
      • Currently only COVID-19 can be reported through the portal but DHSS plans to add other reportable conditions in the future.
    • Environmental conditions previously managed in EnvSurv may continue to be submitted via fax at 573-526-6946 or other reporting methods approved by the Bureau of Environmental Epidemiology until the data submitter is onboarded to ELR/eCR or the conditions are added to MODROP.
    • Diseases previously managed in WebSurv may continue to be submitted via fax to 573-751-6417 or other reporting methods previously approved by the Bureau of Data Modernization and Interoperability until the data submitter is onboarded to ELR/eCR or the conditions are added to MODROP.
  • Special Information Related to COVID-19 Reporting
    • Organizations performing their own COVID-19 testing must report positive results to DHSS unless they are reporting lab tests via the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) or the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) Informatics Messaging Services (AIMS) Platform.
    • Submitters preferring to send COVID-19 testing records in bulk via HL7 instead of using MODROP should contact the Missouri Data Exchange Team to be onboarded for bulk reporting. This e-mail account is monitored from 8AM-5PM CST Monday-Friday.
    • All entities ordering COVID-19 tests from an external laboratory should enter positive case information into MODROP.
