Services for Adults

Area Agencies on Aging (AAA)

Missouri has 10 Area Agencies on Aging that support aging adults who need services and programs to help them remain living in their communities. The AAA offers a wide range of services, including information and referrals to local resources, caregiver support, care management, benefits counseling, and nutritional programs like home-delivered meals.

Show-Me Home

Show-Me Home provides support services to eligible Missourians age 63 or older or adults who are physically disabled to transition from an institutional setting, such as a nursing home, to a community setting. The program's benefits include assistance with security deposits, moving expenses, and furniture purchases. To be eligible, an individual must have resided in a Medicaid-funded institution for at least 60 days.

Centers for Independent Living

Centers for Independent Living provide crucial services for individuals with disabilities including advocacy, peer support, information and referrals, skills training and transition. There are 21 Independent Living Centers that cover all 114 Missouri counties.

Missouri Association of County Developmental Disabilities Services (SB-40)

This bill enacted in 1969, allows Missouri counties to levy a tax up to $.20 per $100 of property assessment to support services for individuals with developmental disabilities. Not all Missouri counties participate in SB-40.

Department of Veterans Affairs

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers various programs for qualifying veterans and their families, including education opportunities and rehabilitation services.

Special Healthcare Needs (SHCN)

SHCN provides services to individuals with special health care needs who are at an increased risk for medical conditions that may hinder normal growth and development.

Program of All-Inclusive Care of the Elderly (PACE)

PACE is a program that helps people aged 55 and older and offers the kind of care usually provided in a nursing home.

The main goal of PACE is to allow older adults to live safely and independently in their own homes for as long as possible. PACE uses both Medicare and Medicaid to pay for all medical and social support needed.

PACE programs are only available in specific areas, so you must live in an area where there's a PACE program to be eligible for enrollment.

Department of Mental Health (DMH) Developmental Disabilities

The Division of Developmental Disabilities was established to support the needs of individuals, family members and caregivers who experience a developmental disability. The services and supports are centered on allowing individuals and families to experience quality and meaningful lives and become valued members of their communities.

Department of Mental Health (DMH)

The Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH) manages, treats, and prevents intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illness, and substance use disorder. DMH is the State’s mental health authority.

There may be additional resources available for those with developmental disabilities who qualify for services through DMH.

Transportation Services

Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT)

Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) provides free rides for eligible Medicaid (MO HealthNet) participants to and from covered medical appointments.

MO Rides

MO Rides is a referral service that connects individuals in need of transportation assistance with available providers in their county.

Services for Children

Women, Infants & Children (WIC)

The Missouri WIC program is designed to provide supplemental food, health care referrals, and nutrition education to pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants and children up to age five.

First Steps

First Steps is an early intervention program for infants and toddlers, birth to age three, who have delayed development or diagnosed conditions that are associated with delayed development. The First Steps program is administered by the Missouri Department of Education and is designed to provide families the tools they need to help their child be successful.

Department of Mental Health (DMH)

Children’s Services supports new and ongoing efforts to improve the lives of Missouri’s children and families. Children’s Services provides education to those within and outside the department’s system on best practices and promising new interventions; seeks to innovative in using resources, including funding streams, professional staff and partners to more effectively address the needs of children and families; and collaborate with other child and family-serving agencies to address the chronic mental health, developmental and relationship challenges from early childhood through transition aged youth.
