Sealed Samples Test Negative for Cronobacter sakazakii Bacteria

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services has been notified by the Federal Food and Drug Administration that all sealed containers of Enfamil Premium Newborn formula and Nursery brand water have tested negative for the Cronobacter sakazakii bacteria. These sealed containers of formula and water were from the same lot as those given to the Laclede County infant whose death was caused by a Cronobacter sakazakii infection.

The Department continues to remind parents to follow the World Health Organization Guidelines for the Safe Preparation, Storage and Handling of powdered infant formula. This includes washing your hands with soap and water, thoroughly cleaning all feeding equipment in hot, soapy water and preparing enough formula for only one feeding at a time.

The Department has also been notified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that the open containers of formula powder, bottled water and prepared formula from the home of the Laclede County infant have all tested positive for the Cronobacter sakazakii bacteria.
