Superior Foods, Inc. Issues Recall Due to Possible Listeria in Product
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services received information regarding a recall for organic frozen spinach produced by Superior Foods, Inc. of Watsonville, CA. Superior Foods, Inc. is recalling Simply Balanced Organic Chopped Spinach (10-oz steam in bag) because the product may contain Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
