Cool Creations, LLC Recalls Products Containing Onions Due to the Gills Onions Expanded Recall

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services received information regarding the recall of products containing Gills Onions. On July 25, Gills Onions LLC recalled diced, slivered and whole peeled onions and diced onion/celery mix because the products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Product was distributed to retailers across Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. The affected product can be identified by the lot code 12201 - 12208 which were distributed July 19 - July 26, 2012. Products are branded as either Cool Creations, LLC or Fiesta Garden Fresh Salsa.
