Kansas Firm Recalls Pizza Topping Products Due To Misbranding and Undeclared Allergen

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services received the following news release regarding Tyson Prepared Foods, Inc, recalling 12,060 pounds of pizza topping products because of misbranding and an undeclared allergen. The packaging identifies the products as beef, but they actually contain pork. Additionally, the pork products contain soy, a known potential allergen, which is not declared on the label.

The following products are subject to recall:

  • 10-pound cartons labeled as "Cooked Pizza Topping" containing two, 5-pound packages labeled as "ARREZZIO-COOKED BEEF PIZZA TOPPING MANZO COTTO PER PIZZA."

The products also bear the establishment number "EST. 623" inside the USDA mark of inspection on the label. The products were produced Jan. 12, 2012, and were sold to foodservice institutions nationwide via a distributor. The product is intended for use in restaurants or institutional food operations; it is not sold in retail grocery stores.

The full recall can be found at www.fsis.usda.gov/News_&_Events/Recall_013_2012_Release/index.asp.
