Overview
The Missouri Genetic Advisory Committee (GAC) is a group of 15 members, the majority of which must be licensed physicians. The purpose of the committee is to advise the Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) in all genetic programs. The department director appoints members to the committee. Applicants must be Missouri residents.
Membership requirements:
- At least one member shall be a specialist in genetics;
- At least one member shall be a licensed obstetrician/gynecologist;
- At least one member shall be a licensed pediatrician in private practice;
- At least one member shall be a consumer, family member of a consumer or representative of a consumer group;
- At least one member shall be a licensed physician experienced in the study and treatment of hemophilia;
- At least one member shall be a specialist in sickle cell anemia; and
- At least one member shall be a specialist in cystic fibrosis.
The remaining eight members will be appointed based on their interest, experience, and knowledge.
The advisory committee meets twice annually, typically on the second Tuesdays of April and November. Meeting dates may be adjusted as needed to best meet the availability of the committee.
Members are expected to attend at least 50 percent of scheduled meetings annually. A term on the GAC is a period of three years.
The GAC is authorized and implemented according to provisions outlined in Sections 191.305 and 191.310, RSMo.
