The Missouri Healthcare-Associated Infection Reporting System (MHIRS) site has been developed to provide information to healthcare providers on the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) reporting requirements for healthcare-associated infections. With the passage of the Missouri Nosocomial Infection Control Act of 2004, hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers are required to report healthcare-associated infections to the DHSS. (For additional information on the statute and related rules, see Laws and Regulations.)

According to the Missouri State Code of Regulations, licensed ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs) are required by statue (Section 192.667, RSMo.) to report Healthcare associated infection data to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services as written in (19 CSR 10-33.050 -- see page 35). This regulation requires Missouri licensed ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) to submit information to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (MDHSS) on an annual basis, for the purpose of determining their facility's SSI related reporting/exemption status.

Facilities are required to submit a response to MDHSS by March 31st of the reporting year their intent to submit data. Facilities performing at least twenty (20) breast or hernia procedures are required to report data into MHIRS. Facilities that perform less than twenty (20) breast procedures and less than twenty (20) hernia procedures are exempt from reporting BUT must still submit a response to MDHSS requesting exemption. When submitting a response, facilities will also be asked to provide contact information (Name, email, and telephone) for at least two unique contacts.

  • Facility Administrator: This is the acting or current ASC administrator. An administrator can additionally serve as a Primary or Secondary contact.
  • Primary Contact: This should be the person you want the DHSS to contact regarding infection data reporting issues and requirements.
  • Secondary Contact: This is the person you want the DHSS to contact in the event the Primary Contact is unavailable.
