We process vital records either by mail or in person. Many vital records are also available at your local public health agency. We have also expanded our services to allow citizens to request their documents online or over the phone by partnering with an external company called VitalChek.
VitalChek is the only official service approved by the state of Missouri to handle online and phone requests for vital records.
The Missouri Bureau of Vital Records (BVR) is not connected to any other online or phone services. BVR is not responsible for any lost fees, broken promises, or stolen personal data caused by using these unapproved companies.
Other websites do not use the correct security methods to check your identity or look up your information safely. Because they cannot properly prove who you are, they are not authorized to handle your requests. Additionally, these unauthorized services often overcharge customers by misrepresenting the official prices of the documents.
Official state fees for certificates are:
- Birth certificates: $15.00 per copy.
- Death certificates: $14.00 for the first copy and $11.00 for each extra copy ordered at the same time.
BVR does not charge any extra administrative fees. However, customers who use VitalChek must pay an approved processing fee. VitalChek handles the shipping and offers faster processing and mailing options.
If you have any questions about how to request a record, you can call the Bureau of Vital Records directly at 573-751-6387.
