Topic: Public Marijuana Product Recalls
Pursuant to 19 CSR 100-1.100(4)(P), the Division of Cannabis Regulation (DCR) may issue a public notice of recall where marijuana product presents a potential threat to health and safety, which may include when marijuana product is not compliantly tested or tracked in the statewide track and trace system (Metrc) before sale to patients and consumers; as mandated by Article XIV and 19 CSR 100-1. In both instances, DCR cannot verify compliance with health and safety requirements.
DCR informs the public of marijuana product recalls through a Department news release. A list of impacted marijuana product and additional information may be provided on our website here: Product Recalls.
Patients and consumers who possess recalled marijuana product should stop using it and discard or return the product to the dispensary where purchased. Patients who return recalled product within 30 days of initial purchase will have their patient allotment credited for the return. For more information on returns, please contact the dispensary where the product was purchased.
Patients and consumers may determine if their marijuana product is on recall by reviewing the marijuana product label. All marijuana product packaging is required to feature a label to assist patients and consumers with using the product. For recall purposes, the required marijuana product label includes:
- License number from which the final marijuana product originated,
- Testing licensee where the final marijuana product passed mandatory testing, and
- State-wide track and trace system tag number associated with the mandatory testing results for the final marijuana product.
Patients and consumers should take the following steps to determine if marijuana product in their possession is on recall.
- Locate the marijuana product label that contains the information listed above.
- Identify the testing licensee.
- Identify the tag number associated with the mandatory testing results.
- Open the Consumer Recall Lists found our website here: Product Recalls.
- Locate the testing licensee on the Consumer Recall lists.
- Compare the testing tag number on the product label to the tag numbers on the Consumer Recall list.
- If the test tag number on the product label matches a tag number on the Consumer Recall lists – the product is on recall.
DCR is committed to ensuring patients and consumers have access to safe cannabis product. Patients and consumers who experience life-threatening reactions to marijuana should seek immediate medical attention. Patients and consumers who experience adverse reactions should be report their experience to CannabisComplaints@health.mo.gov or fill out DCR’s Complaint Form.
