TMU Login, CNA Renewals, & Challenges

I would like to transfer my CNA certification to another state. The state that I am wishing transfer to is requiring a Missouri to verify my CNA certification. How do I request this verification?

How do I Log in to TMU?

Email your certificate number or social security number with your contact information to cnaregistry@health.mo.gov or Missouri@hdmaster.com with the subject line “TMU Login”. We will add your email to your account and send you instructions to finish setting up your account. You can also call 573-526-5686 or 1-800-393-8664.

What is the difference between my CNA being Inactive and Expired?

Your CNA certificate is considered inactive if the registry shows a two (2) year break in employment in the provision of nursing services. Your CNA certificate is considered expired if the registry shows a five (5) year break in employment in the provision of nursing services. If your certificate is inactive you may challenge the examination to obtain active status. If your certificate is expired you may be required to retake the course to obtain active status.

When a CNA passes the final examination, the individual’s name is placed on the CNA active registry.

Question: When a CNA passes the final examination, the individual’s name is placed on the CNA active registry. For nurse aide certification to remain active, CNAs are required to submit documentation of their work in nursing or nursing related services for at least eight (8) hours within each twenty-four- (24) consecutive month time-period. Documentation can be a paystub, W2, or letter on the company letterhead and shall be submitted to the department approved third party test administrator. A fee will be assessed for each renewal.

Answer:

If you are a CNA needing to renew your certification and have been working: Log into your profile in TMU and enter your employment information under the employment tab. You will need to upload a Paystub, W2, or letter from your employer on the company letterhead. The software will then ask for a $20 payment. After the payment is processed, an email will be sent to your employer for verification. Once your employer verifies that you were working your CNA will be renewed.
If you are a CNA working private duty: Log into your profile in TMU and select private duty from the drop down menu. You will need to upload a work verification letter from the person you were caring for or their Power of Attorney. The letter will need to contain your dates of employment, a brief description of what you are helping them with, and the letter will need to be signed and notarized. The software will then ask for payment. Your request will then be reviewed and your CNA will be renewed as long as all required information is provided.

I am with an Employer and want to help my CNA’s Renewal.

Have your employees renew their NA certification online using their TMU login. You can then choose to reimburse them or not for the cost of the renewal.
Choose to pay for your employee’s renewals in bulk.
1. Check the MO TMU registry to be sure the employee is listed on the Missouri NA registry
2. Call D&SDT – HEADMASTER at 1-800-393-8664 to receive the MO 1402 EMP form and verbal instructions with tips and hints for a successful submission
3. Submit the 1402 form with ONLY active employee names that are eligible for renewal

How do I challenge the CNA?

Challenging the CNA means to take the test for certification without taking the course if you meet certain criteria or qualifications. You may be eligible to challenge if any of the below applies.
- Your Missouri CNA is Inactive and you have not been working.
- You have completed an Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) program.
- You have successfully completed at least 4 months of a nursing program including the Fundamentals of Nursing with a clinical rotation within the last 5 years.
- You completed the Nursing program but failed the NCLEX exam.

CNA Program Information

What are the qualifications to get into a CNA Class?

To take a CNA Program you must be 18 years of age unless you are taking the course through a High School Vo-Tech Program.
Individuals wanting to enroll in a CNA class cannot be listed on the state Employee Disqualification List (EDL).
If you have been convicted or entered a plea of guilty to a misdemeanor or felony charge which includes any suspended imposition of sentence, any suspended execution of sentence or any period of probation or parole in this state or any other state which if committed in Missouri would be a class A or B felony violation of Chapters 565, 566, or 569, RSMo, or any violation of subsection 198.070.3, RSMo, or section 568.020, RSMo, unless a good cause waiver has been granted by the department.

How long is the CNA Program?

The CNA program consist of a minimum of 75 Classroom Hours and 100 Clinical Hours. The way your facility or school structures the class will determine how many weeks the course takes to complete. Some classes meet once a week, some classes meet multiple times per week.

I have already been hired by a facility, but I am not certified yet. How long can I work?

You must be certified within 120 days (4 Months) of your start date if you are working in a Facility.

I completed the CNA course but did not take the exam, may I do that now?

You have 1 year from the start date of your course to complete the program and take the test. If you are still within 1 year of your class start date you are still eligible to take the test.
Your instructor should have entered your information in TMU so you can log in and schedule your test. If they did not enter your information or you are not sure how to log in you can email our office at cnaregistry@health.mo.gov or call 1-800-393-8664.

I was dismissed or quit before I finished my CNA course. Do I have to start over?

An individual who leaves the course prior to completing it has up to six months to re-enter the course.

Am I entitled to a copy of my classroom and on the job training record if I leave the course?

Yes.

CNA Testing Questions

Where can I take the CNA exam?

There are testing sites all over the state. You can login to your TMU account to get signed up for a testing event.
- If there are no test events close to you, call 1-800-393-8664 and ask for the Missouri Team for assistance.

How much does the CNA exam cost?

The CNA exam is $135.00 total.
- The Knowledge exam is $32.00
- The skills exam is $103.00

I struggle with reading, can the test be read to me?

Yes, there is an option to have the test read to you. Let your instructor know if you are wanting to have the test read aloud or call 1-800-393-8664.
- There is an additional $10 fee for test to be read to you.

How many questions are on the exam?

There are 75 questions on the CNA Exam.

General CNA Questions

How do I get my CNA added to the Missouri Registry from another state?

Missouri now has Reciprocity. As long as your CNA is active and in good standing in another state you can get your CNA added to the Missouri Registry. See the link below for the reciprocity instructions.

How do I get my Missouri CNA transferred to another state?

You will need to contact each state that you want to be certificated in to ask about their regulations regarding reciprocity as each state is different. The Missouri Registry Team will not fill out reciprocity verification forms for other states.

How do I change my name on my Certification?

If you are just changing your last name or correcting the spelling of your name you can submit a copy of your social security card, drivers license, and updated contact information via email to cnaregistry@health.mo.gov or it can be faxed to 573-526-7656.
If you changed your full name we will need a copy of your social security card, the court documents showing the name change approval, and your updated contact information emailed to cnaregistry@health.mo.gov or faxed to 573-526-7656.

Is it required for me to have twelve (12) hours of in-service each year in order to keep my CNA license active?

A long-term care facility is required by state regulation to provide 12 hours of in-service to nursing personnel. If you are not employed in a long-term care facility you are not required to have the 12 hours of in-service in order to keep your certificate active.

My certificate has the wrong social security number on it, how do I get it corrected?

CMT and L1MA Questions

I want to take the CMT Course. What are the qualifications?

You must be a CNA and listed as active on the Mo Certified Nurse Assistant Registry for at least six months.

You must be 18 years of age.
You must have a high school diploma or GED.
You must not have a federal marker or be listed on the employee disqualification list (EDL); and
You must have a letter of recommendation by a current or previous long term care employer

I passed my CMT exam, may I pass medications in a facility?

You may pass medications for up to 60-days before you are listed on the registry if the facility has a copy of your score sheet showing a passing score.

How do I challenge the CMT?

Challenging the CMT means to take the test for certification without taking the course if you meet certain criteria or qualifications. To be a CMT you must first be listed as a CNA on the registry. You may be eligible to challenge if any of the below applies.
- Those that have completed the Medication Administration/Pharmacology course in Nursing School within the last 5 years.
- Those that have finished Nursing School but failed the NCLEX within the last 5 years.
- Those that are certified as a CMT/Medication Aid in another state.

I am a CMT and/or a LIMA, may I give insulin injections?

You may give insulin injections only if you are on the registry as Insulin Administration Certified in addition to CMT or L1MA Certified.

I have a Level I Medication Aide (LIMA) certification, where may I pass medications?

You may pass medications only in a Licensed Residential Care Facility or Assisted Living Facility.

How do I renew my L1MA?

If you are employed as a L1MA you can check with your employer about the 4 hour renewal class.
If you are not employed you can call 573-634-5345 to get signed up for an online renewal class or call 573-526-5686 to get the name and number of an instructor near you.

CNA/CMT Instructor Questions

As an Instructor, how many CNA students may I have in class?

There is no ration limit for the 75 hour classroom portion of the program.
During the clinical hours the maximum ratio is one (1) to fifteen (15) and it is recommended that the ratio be one (1) to ten (10) or less.

I would like to be a CNA Instructor, what are the qualifications?

A Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in Missouri or in possession of a temporary permit from the Missouri State Board of Nursing. The licensee shall not be subject to current disciplinary action; and
A minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience as a RN and at least one (1) year experience in provision of LTC facility services within the last five (5) years

I would like to be a Clinical Supervisor, what are the qualifications?

The individual must be a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensed in Missouri or in possession of a temporary permit from the Missouri State Board of Nursing. The licensee shall not be subject to current disciplinary action; and
At a minimum, have one year of Long Term Care (LTC) experience or currently employed by a LTC facility; and
The nurse must attend the state approved train-the-trainer course

I would like to be a L1MA instructor, what are the qualifications?

A Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensed in Missouri or in possession of a temporary permit from the Missouri State Board of Nursing, or shall hold a multi-state or single state registered nurse license from a jurisdiction that is party to the Nurse Licensure Compact; and
A minimum of one (1) year experience working as a nurse.

How do I apply for the Train the Trainer course?

To take the CNA or CMT instructor Train the Trainer you will first need an approval letter from the Health Education Unit. To get approval, submit the following documentation to the Health Education unit at cnaregistry@health.mo.gov.
- A copy of your Social Security Card
- A copy of your nursing license or NURSYS report.
- Your contact information.
- A copy of your updated resume.
