People with HIV/AIDS may need to take many expensive prescription drugs. Some can get help paying for their prescriptions through private or public health insurance programs, such as Medicaid, Medicare or the ACA. However, not all individuals have access to health coverage; and even when they do, sometimes they still need assistance with their prescription costs.

The Missouri AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) may be able to help with getting your HIV medication and other prescriptions and medical care costs if you qualify for the program(s).

How ADAP Works

• ADAP provides a limited number of FDA-approved medications to low-income people living with HIV, who have limited or no health coverage.

• ADAP must be the payer of last resort. This means that ADAP cannot pay for prescriptions or medical related services if payment has already been made or can reasonably be expected to be made by another payer source. This includes prescriptions or medical services paid for by any public or private insurance. You must vigorously pursue other options, such as patient assistance programs.

To Qualify for ADAP

• You must be HIV positive.
• Be a resident of Missouri.
• Have an income at or below 300% of the federal poverty level.

To Enroll in the Missouri HIV Case Management Program

You will need to contact an HIV Case Management agency that covers your area and bring the following documents with you when you enroll:

• A letter of HIV diagnosis from within the past 6 months
• Photo ID.
• Proof of residence (like a utility bill).
• Verification of Income (like pay stubs, tax returns or benefit award letters).

 *For families with more than 8 persons, add $5,680 for each additional person.

Tips

• Provide supporting documentation, as requested.
• Let your case manager know if you move so your medicine and forms can be mailed to the correct address.
• Respond to letters and forms sent to you by ADAP.
