Back to School (Walk, Bike, Roll, School Bus and Rail) |
Back-to-school season has arrived! If your kids are walking to school this year, please take a few minutes to cover some tips on staying safe. It sounds elemental, but remind kids to always look left, right, and left again before crossing the street and keep looking until they’re safely on the other side. Teach kids to put phones, headphones, and devices down while crossing the street; it’s especially important to reinforce this message with teenagers. Use sidewalks or paths whenever possible and cross at street corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic as far to the left as possible. Kids younger than 10 should cross the street with an adult if possible. Most kids can’t accurately judge the speed and distance of oncoming cars until that age. https://www.safekids.org/tip/pedestrian-safety-tips |
