RE: Department-initiated variance for foreign matter screening
Licensees,
Pursuant to 19 CSR 100-1.020(1)(A), the Division of Cannabis Regulation (DCR) is granting a variance by modifying the provisions of 19 CSR 100-1.110(7)(G)6 regarding the amount of representative sample required to be tested for foreign matter screening.
The current requirement in 19 CSR 100-1.110(7)(G)6 provides:
- Foreign matter screening. Testing shall be performed on the total representative sample after preparation for microbial and water activity testing and prior to preparation for all other testing.
DCR is modifying this provision to provide:
- Foreign Matter Screening. Testing shall be performed on no less than 60% of the total representative sample after preparation for microbial and water activity testing and prior to preparation for all other testing.
DCR has determined good cause for granting this variance is that it provides testing licensees a mechanism for retaining unadulterated sample material for reanalysis (see 19 CSR 100-1.110(10)(B)1.A and 2.A) and interlaboratory comparison purposes (see 19 CSR 100-1.110(3)(E)).
Thank you,
Andrea Balkenbush, Deputy Director
Division of Cannabis Regulation
