Email Encryption Reminder

SLCR has recently received several unencrypted emails from providers that contained Personally Identifiable Information (PII). This poses a significant risk to individual privacy and highlights the need to follow established encryption practices.

What is PII?

• Full names
• Social Security numbers
• Addresses
• Phone numbers
• Email addresses
• Financial information
• Any other data that can identify an individual

To ensure the privacy and security of sensitive information, always encrypt emails that contain PII. Encryption helps protect data from unauthorized access and supports compliance with privacy regulations. If PII is included, use your organization’s approved encryption tools or methods. Encrypting emails with PII protects individuals’ privacy and helps prevent data breaches. If you are unsure about encryption procedures, consult your IT department or privacy officer.
