NHA Qualifications - pursuant to state regulation 19 CSR 73-2.020

- A licensed NHA oversees a licensed skilled, intermediate care, assisted living, or residential care.

Age - 21 years
Good moral character
High school or equivalent
Has not been convicted of a crime

Experience and/or education from an accredited educational institution in one of the following areas:

  1. Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of experience in health-care administration*, full-time equivalency;
  2. *Experience in health-care administration, pursuant to 19 CSR 73-2.010: “Experience in health-care administration” shall mean having management responsibility, which shall include the on-site supervision of at least three (3) staff persons in a licensed long-term care or acute care facility or a licensed inpatient mental health facility, or a department of one of these facilities.

    OR
  3. Education:
    1. Associate degree in health-care administration, including a minimum of twenty-one (21) semester hours of course work directly in health-care administration; or
    2. Baccalaureate degree (Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts) in one (1) of the following areas:
      1. Health-care administration;
      2. Gerontology (including a long-term care practicum, internship, or both);
      3. Nursing (BSN or diploma nurse); or
    3. Master’s degree or beyond in one (1) of the following areas:
      1. Health-care administration;
      2. Gerontology (including a long-term care practicum, internship or both);
      3. Nursing
    OR
  4. Experience and education in one of the following areas:
    1. Associate degree and two (2) years experience in a health-care facility**; or
    2. Baccalaureate degree (BS or BA) and one (1) year experience in a health-care facility**; or
    3. Master’s degree or beyond and one (1) year experience in a health-care facility**.
    4. ** Health-care facility, pursuant to 19 CSR 73-2.010, shall mean a licensed long-term care facility, licensed acute-care facility, or licensed inpatient mental health facility.
