SUBJECT 1: Upcoming State Holiday. The WIC state agency will be closed, and there will be no MOWINS Help Desk support, on Monday, May 31.

SUBJECT 2: WIC Invoices. WIC invoices for May 2021 (submitted for payment in the month of June), along with prior months, must be submitted through the Online WIC Invoicing System by close of business Tuesday, June 8, 2021. Invoices submitted after that date will be held and paid in July 2021. This change in schedule complies with the close of the State Fiscal Year 2021 payment processing deadlines. Coffee Talk with the wichealth Team – Last Friday of Every Month. Our first Coffee Talk was a great success! If you weren’t able to join us, you can watch the recording. Coffee Talk allows local agency staff to ask questions and share ideas. It also allows the wichealth team to highlight the many resources we offer! From Our Recipe Box to Yours – Health eKitchen. Feliz Cinco de Mayo! Health eKitchen is celebrating diversity this month. Did you know wichealth offers over 100 Spanish translated recipes? Some of our favorite Spanish recipes were curated from our staffs’ kitchens! Be sure to try a few of these recipes.

Wichealth for Your Smartphone – Create as Icon to Access wichealth. We have heard your requests for a wichealth app. Our development team is working hard to research and implement your desire. In the meantime, you can create easy access to wichealth using an icon on your smartphone’s homescreen. Because we know your participants access wichealth on their smartphone more than any other way, check out our attached packet of instructional flyers that we have created in both English and Spanish that explain how to create this icon on either an Android or an iPhone device.

SUBJECT 4: Microcuvette Order. Missouri WIC requested the microcuvette orders be shipped to the local agencies, and some local agencies began receiving shipments on Friday, May 14, 2021. Once the order is received, please verify that the number of microcuvettes received matches the number listed on the packing slip.

If the number of microcuvettes in the package is the same as the packing slip, sign and date the packing slip. Please fax the signed packing slip to WIC Operations at 573-526-1470 or scan and email the signed packing slip to within one week of receiving the shipment. Confirmation on the packing slip is required for the state agency to pay for the microcuvettes.

If the number of microcuvettes received is different from the packing slip, please call Jenna Rackers at 573-526-4622.

SUBJECT 5: Introduction to Child Development Training. Tracking a child's development can help parents celebrate their child’s development while monitoring for delays. Once a delay is identified, the connection between families and early intervention services can be made. The Association of State Public Health Nutritionists (ASPHN) has released a no-cost training called Introduction to Child Development. This training will demonstrate to WIC staff how they can empower parents to watch for skill development and refer parents for extra help when needed. This is an approved 1-hour continuing education unit (CEU) for WIC professional staff. If your local agency would like to enroll in the WIC Developmental Milestones Program, please complete the application form located on the webpage. SUBJECT 6: FCC’s Emergency Broadband Benefit Program Launching May 12. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will make $3.2 billion available to internet providers nationally to provide a monthly discount for high-speed internet service to eligible households through the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program (EBB) on May 12.

Please note the assistance will be provided to the participating internet provider and not to the household. Once the program is launched, households can sign up for the EBB in one of three ways:

  1. Register through a participating provider's website
  2. Apply online through the National Verifier
  3. Sign up through the mail:

Your organization can help spread the word and assist populations of need access this new assistance program for home internet service. It is expected this program will be popular and funds will be expended quickly. The State of Missouri has established a landing page for outreach groups and citizens to quickly find more information about the program and contact information for participating providers. Please refer any inquiries to the landing page.
