SUBJECT 2: Local Community Water Fluoridation Experience. Join a panel of local water operators from around the state to talk about local experience with community water fluoridation, including challenges and successes. This presentation is on August 4, 2021 from noon to 1:30 pm (CST) and will offer insight for water operators and others with an interest in the processes of local fluoridation to support community oral health.

Panelists include

  • Roger Sullivan with the Marceline, MO Water Department;
  • David Harris with the Charleston, MO Water Department;
  • Frank Shovlin with the Park Hills, MO Water Department; and
  • Bill Bach with the Poplar Bluff, MO Water Department.
  • Gwen Sullentrup, Community Water Fluoridation and Dental Sealant Coordinator, Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Office of Dental Health will also do a brief presentation.

There is no fee for attendance, but you must register for this webinar by sending your name, address, and email address to info@oralhealthmissouri.org. Be sure to include the title of the webinar in the email subject line. Registrants will receive a link for the webinar a few days prior to the meeting. Please save the date on your calendar now. Completion of this webinar counts towards one (1) continuing education unit for WIC Nutritionist and CPA.

SUBJECT 3: Scale Inspections. Scale inspections will resume in FY22, although local agencies will now need to pay for the inspection from their allocated WIC contract funding. Invoice for this expense in the administrative office cost line item. Remember to include this expense in the FY22 LAP. The cost of the inspection, if completed by Missouri Weights and Measures Device and Commodity Program, will be $17/infant scale, $34/adult scale. The process remains the same: local agency calls (573) 751-5639 to request an inspection, a scale inspector comes to the agency, provides a dated sticker documenting the scale is approved and two copies of the invoice. The agency is then on the inspector’s schedule for the following year. Refer to the Health and Nutrition Assessment Handbook (HNAH), page 3, for further information, or contact your TA nutritionist.

SUBJECT 4: Intimate Partner Violence and Maternal Access to Care. Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA), Office of Regional Operations (ORO) in Regions 5, 6, and 7 invite you to a webinar on Intimate Partner Violence and Maternal Access to Care on July 14, 2021 at 11 am (CST). The covered topics for the online webinar are listed below:

  • Intersections of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) with other health priorities such as substance use and maternal health.
  • Influence of IPV on sexual health
  • Main barriers that prevent a women who has experienced IPV from obtaining healthcare
  • Strategies to support survivors in promoting sexual health and overcoming healthcare barriers

SUBJECT 5: New Electronic Form – Receipt of Donated WIC Formulas and WIC-Eligible Nutritionals (WIC-15). The WIC-15 is now available electronically to use when donating WIC formula or WIC-eligible nutritionals to any organization that does not provide a receipt. It is posted here under the “Nutrition Forms” tab and it is the first form listed in the “Available Electronically” section. As a reminder, per policy 2.3.080 Return, Donation, and Disposal of Formula and WIC-Eligible Nutritionals in section B.2, the local agency (LA) shall obtain a receipt for all transactions with organizations accepting donated formula. JOB POSTING: Part-Time Nutritionist/Dietitian – Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center. Samuel U. Rodgers has an immediate full time opening for a Nutritionist/Dietitian in the WIC program. At minimum, the candidate must have graduated from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health Nutrition, Dietetics, Home Economics, or closely related field; including or supplemented by at least fifteen (15) semester hours in food and nutrition including diet therapy and community nutrition. This position could be part time or full time for the right candidate.

JOB POSTING: Part-Time Breastfeeding Peer Counselor - St. Charles County Department of Public Health. The St. Charles Department of Public Health’s WIC program has an opening for a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor. The purpose of this position is to counsel pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers by telephone and in the WIC office at scheduled intervals. This position teaches breastfeeding classes and/or organizes mother support groups.

JOB POSTING: Full-Time WIC Clerk – Platte County Health Department. The Platte County Health Department’s WIC clinic is seeking a WIC Clerk. This position is responsible for helping to determine eligibility of WIC participants by performing income assessment, and obtaining and entering participant information. Other duties but not limited to, include answering phones, scheduling, and basic office duties. Strong customer service skills are required. This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Office, computer and WIC experience preferred. Position is available for 4 days a week, full time (40 hrs./week).
