Due to COVID-19 related manufacturer production issues, some retailers have not been able to stock WIC-approved ready-to-eat cold cereal.  In response, the state agency (SA) has reviewed and approved the following Hospitality Brand cereals:

SUBJECT 2: WICShopper Appointment Reminder. WICShopper enabled an appointment reminder feature on September 3, 2020. Within the WICShopper application, a new icon will appear on the home screen called My Appointments. By clicking on this icon, the participant will be able to view appointment details. If the participant opts to use notifications for this application, they will automatically receive their appointment reminder through the notifications. In order for the participant to receive their appointment reminder, they must register their eWIC card(s). The local agency must use MOWINS to schedule participant appointments in order to use this new feature. The household will receive their appointment reminders five (5) days prior to their scheduled appointment date. Make sure to encourage participants to register their eWIC card(s)!

SUBJECT 3: July wichealth.org Newsletter. Please see the attached July wichealth.org newsletter. Highlights include:

New Lessons and Updates. Michigan acquired OA funding to update and develop the following lessons which will be released in October 2020:

  • Starting Your Infant on Solid Food
  • Offering Your Baby the Right Foods as He Grows

Lessons Consolidations. State Partners approved the consolidation of these six lessons earlier this fiscal year. These two new lessons will be released, in November 2020 along with their new titles. The six old lessons will be retired.

Meal Planning Lessons in Spanish. Our Spanish team has been working hard to translate lessons in the Meal Planning category. The following lessons are now available for Spanish speaking participants:

New Resources.

  • The Lesson Recommendation Guide can be used to suggest lessons that best meet the needs of your participants. The Guide is designed to be printed on 8 ½ x 11 paper, double-sided and cut in half.
  • New Lesson Description Handouts have been updated.

JOB POSTING: Full-Time Nutritionist/Dietitian – Samuel U. Rodgers WIC Program. Samuel U Rodgers WIC Program has immediate opening for a full time Nutritionist/Dietitian. The candidate must have graduated from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health Nutrition, Dietetics, Home Economics, or closely related field; including or supplemented by at least fifteen (15) semester hours in food and nutrition including diet therapy and community nutrition. The selected candidate will provide nutrition education to WIC eligible participants and assess their nutritional needs for certification eligibility at our Northland clinic (2 days per week) and downtown site (3 days per week). There is flexibility with this position to be part-time.
