SUBJECT 1: Upcoming State Holidays. The WIC state agency will be closed, and there will be no MOWINS Help Desk support, on the following days:

  • Thursday, November 26
  • Friday, November 27

SUBJECT 2: COVID Local Agency Backup Advised. It is understandable that some local agencies may struggle with issues directly related to COVID-19, including local agency staff being personally affected by COVID-19 illness. It is strongly advised that all local agencies preemptively establish a mutual partnership with one or more other local agencies to assist in the continuation of WIC services should a local agency be impacted to the point where there are no staff, or not enough staff, to continue services to the agency’s full caseload. The state agency can very quickly enable a local agency willing to access the participant records of another local agency should they need to provide assistance. The state agency will not provide access to another agency’s caseload in advance of an actual need, but we request that local agencies work through TA staff should this need arise.

No additional funding will be automatically distributed to local agencies covering another agency’s caseload for the temporary period that coverage may be required. If a local agency covering another agency’s caseload does find that their current budgets cannot absorb the additional caseload coverage, that agency can provide justification for additional costs through their TA staff for reimbursement consideration.

Please refer to your local agency’s emergency response plan procedures and refer to the Missouri WIC Disaster Plan if WIC operations are disrupted or there are not sufficient staff to meet separation of duties requirements. Immediately contact your TA if your local agency is anticipating closure for any period of time or if your operations change significantly (e.g., remote benefit issuance instead of onsite benefit issuance). If you have questions or need assistance with continuity planning in the event your local agency does not have staff to continue providing WIC services for a period of time due to COVID-19-related issues, contact your TA staff.

SUBJECT 3: Brief Survey on eWIC Cardholder (WIC-18). Please complete a brief survey on the eWIC cardholder (WIC-18). Please complete the brief three-minute survey to help us determine the best use of the eWIC cardholders as we begin consideration on revising and reprinting. The survey will close on November 25 at 11:59 p.m.
If you have any questions, please email Anne Strope at anne.strope@health.mo.gov
Thank you for your assistance!

SUBJECT 4: Requesting WIC Tags for New Breast Pumps. A number of local agencies (LA) received new electric multi-user breast pumps which need WIC inventory tags. The following information is needed:

  • Brand name of breast pump (EnDeare or EnJoye)
  • Serial number for each pump

LAs may email Jason.Seehusen@health.mo.gov the list of breast pump brands and serial numbers.

WIC tags will be mailed to the LA once the lists are received. Jason will share this information with the State Breastfeeding Group so the pumps are added to MOWINS and LAs can issue the new pumps to participants.

Please email Jason (Jason.Seehusen@health.mo.gov) once you have received these tags.

SUBJECT 5: WIC Direct Access. As a reminder, anyone with active MOWINS access can request access to WIC Direct.

Requests should be sent to the MOWINS Help Desk at the WICHelpDesk@health.mo.gov
When a request is submitted please include the user’s first and last name, email address, and the user’s primary agency location. Once the user has been granted access, two emails will be sent to that user from Custom Data Processing (CDP). One will inform them of their user ID and the other will include their temporary password. If possible, it is encouraged to copy the temporary password that is sent to the user in the email into the WIC Direct site. This prevents any confusion in deciphering what the temporary password is.

SUBJECT 6: NEW Welcome to WIC Video. The new Welcome to WIC video featuring the eWIC card is now available. Please click here or go to wic.mo.gov to check it out! Please discontinue using the Welcome to WIC video that features the checks. DVD copies are not available at this time; notification will be sent when DVDs are available. We hope you enjoy it. If you have any questions or feedback, please email Cailee Rye at Cailee.rye@health.mo.gov

SUBJECT 8: New Development Milestones/Talking is Teaching Resource Request Form. The new Developmental Milestones/Talking is Teaching Resource Request Form (WIC-5) is available under Resource Order Forms here. Use the WIC-5 form to order both the Developmental Milestones and Talking is Teaching resources.
