SUBJECT 1: WIC Outreach – COVID-19 Response. There is now a WIC Outreach - COVID-19 Response webpage. This page will be updated frequently with press releases and social media posts for local agencies to utilize. The page currently has one press release and seven social media posts. More are being developed and will be posted once approved, so check the site at least once a week. If your WIC program does not have a social media page and would like to start one, contact Anne Strope who will help setup and create a plan for managing the page. Please feel free to reach out to Anne Strope at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any suggestions, comments, or questions about how we can tackle outreach together!
SUBJECT 2: CDC Milestones Tracker App. Participants can now access the CDC Milestones Tracker through the Missouri WICShopper App. Look for the CDC Milestones icon and download the App for free on iOS and Android devices in English or Spanish! WIC participants can access the tracker to evaluate their children’s milestones in how they play, learn, talk, act, and move. If you have any questions please contact D’Anne Ward at Danne.Ward@health.mo.gov
SUBJECT 3: Microcuvette and Analyzer Order. The WIC state agency is not shipping microcuvette orders at this time due to numerous local agency clinic closures and limited participant contact. The state agency has supplies available to ship out to local agencies when needed. Please contact WICOperations@health.mo.gov if you need microcuvettes shipped to your agency at this time.
SUBJECT 4: Invitation for the FFY 2021 Breastfeeding Peer Counseling (BFPC) Program. If your agency is interested in participating in the FFY 2021 BFPC program, please see the attached letter. To apply, please complete the online application and attach your BFPC agency plan. For those who have access, your user ID and password will be the same as the one used for the LAP and WIC online invoice. If you have not completed an ASAP to request access, please see “SUBJECT 7: ASAP Information for Completing BFPC and WIC Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic Applications” in this week’s WIC Update. An application must be completed each year, even if your agency is currently participating in the BFPC program. The application deadline is COB on Friday, May 15, 2020. We understand that local agencies are in different stages of COVID-19 response and want to work with your agency to address any barriers that might exist in submitting the BFPC Program application as requested.
If you have any questions or are experiencing challenges, please contact Stephanie Pruess at Stephanie.email@example.com or by phone at 573-840-9572.
SUBJECT 5: Webinar for New Agencies Considering Applying for the BFPC Program. If your agency is interested in applying for the BFPC program, but unsure about what it entails, please join Lisa Schlientz and Stephanie Pruess on Monday, April 13, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. for an informative webinar about the application process and the peer counseling program. To reserve your spot, please email Stephanie.Pruess@health.mo.gov. We will discuss the application process, program requirements, staffing considerations, and budgeting, as well as answering any local agency questions. We realize that COVID-19 response efforts might not allow you to attend this webinar. Questions addressed and discussion points from the webinar will be available at a later date if you are unable to attend.
SUBJECT 6: WIC Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic Application. The purpose of this statewide effort is to implement evidence-based breastfeeding strategies and to encourage and recognize local agencies that offer an optimal level of breastfeeding support. The WIC Breastfeeding Task Force worked with the state agency to develop specific criteria that must be met to be recognized as a “Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic.” These criteria are available here.
If your agency would like to apply for “Breastfeeding Friendly” status for FFY 2021, complete the online application. If you completed an ASAP request for the BFPC application, you will also have access to this application. Once it is determined that your agency meets all the criteria, your agency will be recognized as a “Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic” for FFY 2021 and will receive a framed certificate to hang in your clinic and additional funding. The deadline for completing the application is COB on Friday, May 15, 2020. We understand that local agencies are in different stages of COVID-19 response and want to work with your agency to address any barriers that might exist in submitting the “Breastfeeding Friendly” application as requested.
If you experience challenges or have questions, please contact Lisa Schlientz at Lisa.Schlientz@health.mo.gov or by phone at 573-751-6468.
