SUBJECT 1: Determining Household Size WOM Policy Update. The 3.02000 Income Assessment and Documentation policy has been revised and information for determining household size has been moved to a new policy. The new policy, 3.02100 Determining Household Size, is effective immediately, and takes precedence over the information in 3.02000 for determining household size. The income assessment policy is being revised and will be released soon. This policy revision was previously discussed in the June 11, 2018 WIC Update. If you have any questions regarding these policy changes, please contact your district TA.

SUBJECT 2: Clarification on Risk Factor 371 Maternal Smoking. Maternal Smoking: Risk Factor 371 is automatically assigned by the system when the woman reports any smoking of tobacco products (i.e., cigarettes, pipes, or cigars) and it is entered into the Health Information tab. Please be aware that “daily smoking” will now be “any smoking.” See screenshot below:

SUBJECT 3: Clarification on Food Packages V and VII Peanut butter and dry beans or canned beans choices.

  • The default food packages include one 16 oz. peanut butter with 1 pound dry beans or four 16 oz. cans of beans.
  • When individually tailoring food packages V and VII for nutritional reasons (e.g., food allergy, underweight, participant preference), four 16 oz. cans of beans can be substituted for 1 pound dry beans. The following substitutions are authorized: 1 pound dry and four 16 oz. cans of beans (and no peanut butter); or 2 pounds dry beans or eight 16 oz. cans of beans (and no peanut butter); or two 16 oz. jars of peanut butter (and no beans).
