JOB POSTING: Part Time Breastfeeding Peer Counselor - St. Charles County Health Department
JOB POSTING: Part Time Nutritionist (Registered Dietitian) - Mercer County Health Department
SUBJECT 1: Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program Coordinator. The Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS), Bureau of WIC and Nutrition Services, currently has an opening for a Nutritionist III that will function as the Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program Coordinator. This position is located in Jefferson City. Please see the attached position blurb for additional information. SUBJECT 2: Health Program Representative I/II. The Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS), Bureau of WIC and Nutrition Services, currently has an opening for a Health Program Representative I/II that will function as part of the state breastfeeding team. This position is located in Jefferson City. Please see the attached position blurb for additional information. Interested individuals must be eligible for the job classification of HPR I located here or HPR II located here. SUBJECT 3: MOWINS Release 2.32.01 Update: On Saturday, September 29, Release 2.32.01 will be applied to the MOWINS database. MOWINS will be locked down starting at 2:00 p.m. All local agency staff should be out of the MOWINS database prior to that time. Local agencies have the option to download the update any time on Sunday, September 30. Only local agencies that have Monday clinics are asked to download Monday morning. Local agencies with Tuesday clinics may choose to download on Monday afternoon or later. Those local agencies that do not have clinics prior to Tuesday are requested to wait until at least Tuesday afternoon, or later in the week to complete the download. If you have machines that are not being used, they do not need to be updated until later in the week. However, we request that all computers be updated no later than October 15.
With Release 2.32.01, two (2) enhancements have been placed into MOWINS. The first enhancement makes the ability to transfer households from one agency to another much easier. The second enhancement added a search feature available on the Benefits History tab. See attachment for further explanation regarding these enhancements.
SUBJECT 4: MOWINS Help Desk Closure. The MOWINS Help Desk will be closed on the following dates and times:
- Tuesday, September 25 from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.
The MOWINS Help Desk will check email and voicemail frequently during the closure times and will respond as soon as possible.
SUBJECT 5: Invoices for MWA/WIC Conference. Invoices have been sent to all local agencies attending the MWA/WIC Conference in Branson October 3-5. If you are attending the conference, but you did not receive your invoice, please contact Deb Cullum at 660-785-3237 or Debra.Cullum@lpha.mo.gov
SUBJECT 6: HemoCue Training Available at the Missouri WIC Conference. Jo Hunter, HemoCue trainer, will be available to train WIC local agency staff at the 2018 Missouri WIC Conference. Sign up for the training at the conference registration desk. Training will take about one hour and will be offered at the following times:
- Wednesday, October 3, 2018 – 10:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., or 4:30 p.m.
- Thursday, October 4, 2018 – 7:30 a.m., 11:45 a.m., or 2:45 p.m.

SUBJECT 7: Basket Raffle Fundraiser for the Missouri 2018 WIC Conference. The Missouri WIC Association (MWA) will sponsor the basket raffle fundraiser again this year at the 2018 Missouri WIC Conference held October 3-5, 2018 in Branson. The MWA would like to invite staff at the local agencies to donate a basket and we hope to have a great selection as we have had in past years, so be creative in selecting the theme of your basket. If you are donating a basket for the raffle fundraiser, please bring it to the registration desk at the conference. SUBJECT 8: Local Agency Bulletin Board Contest for the Missouri 2018 WIC Conference - New Email Address. The below information was sent out in a previous WIC Update. Please note there is a new email address to send submissions. Please email the .jpg file, theme category, and local agency name to MOWICbulletinboardcontest@gmail.com.

The Missouri WIC Association (MWA) will host a bulletin board contest this year at the 2018 Missouri WIC Conference held October 3-5, 2018 in Branson. Local agencies are invited and encouraged to participate in a bulletin board contest to showcase staff creativity in designing displays that reflect a variety of WIC themes. Entries in each Thematic Category will be evaluated based on Creativity, Artistic Design, and Overall Impact. Contest entries will be displayed in one of the plenary sessions during the conference so local agencies can gain ideas to create their own displays. Begin designing your bulletin board now to ensure your entry is submitted by September 21, 2018! Thematic Categories and Guidelines for Submission are listed below. SUBJECT 9: Revised Nutrition Risk Criteria Webinar. This recorded webinar will provide attendees with an overview of the USDA risk factor changes that will be implemented October 1, 2018. All certifying staff are required to complete the recorded webinar. The following is a list of new and revised risk factors.
- Risk Factor 142 Preterm or Early Term Delivery (previously titled Prematurity)
- Risk Factor 311 History of Preterm or Early Term Delivery (previously titled History of Preterm Delivery)
- Risk Factor 383 Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS)
SUBJECT 10: Immunization Webinar. Local agencies are invited to a free one hour Immunization Webinar for WIC staff on September 20, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (CST). The webinar is hosted by Vaccinate Your Family and will provide vaccination recommendations and key messages for pregnant women, infants, and children. Vaccinate Your Family has collaborated with WIC to provide annual up-to-date vaccination information and posters to WIC clinics nationwide. In recent years, they have worked with federal staff to develop immunization resources for parents, available on the WIC Works Resource System, which have been an essential resource for WIC staff who screen and refer children for needed immunizations.

SUBJECT 11: Formulas Inactivated in MOWINS on November 1, 2018. As stated in the April 23, 2018 WIC Update the formulas listed below were discontinued and removed from the May 1, 2018 Formula Listing. These formulas will be inactivated in MOWINS on November 1, 2018. Any special formulas prescribed prior to May 1, 2018 were to be provided until the expiration of the Medical Documentation Form (WIC-27). Once the WIC-27 expired, local agencies were to work with the participant’s health care provider to find a substitute that is on the revised FFRG Formula Listing.

Food Evolution: A Discussion for Registered Dietitians
