The Loving Support Award of Excellence was developed to recognize and celebrate WIC local agencies that provide exemplary breastfeeding programs and support services. Over the last four years the award has been given, Missouri has had 22 local agencies that have met the criteria and were recognized.
Three levels of excellence will be recognized and awarded: Gold, Gold Premiere, and Gold Elite. The award is valid for a four-year period; however an agency may apply for an award of higher achievement the following year after receiving an award. Agencies awarded in 2014-2015 should reapply for 2019.
The main qualification to apply is for the local agency to have a Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program that meets all of the required core components of the FNS Loving Support© Model for a successful peer counseling program for at least one year. All of Missouri’s “Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinics” should, at a minimum, meet the Gold level and are all encouraged to apply.
