SUBJECT 4: Upcoming State Holidays. The WIC state agency will be closed, and there will be no MOWINS Help Desk coverage on the following dates:

- Tuesday, January 1
SUBJECT 5: MOWINS Monthly Tip. Each month the MOWINS team will present a WIC Update to provide a tip for MOWINS users. These tips will range in topics but the overall concept is to provide assistance and education to state and local agency staff. The MOWINS team will start collecting these tips, and posting them to the MOWINS Webpage so that they can be referenced at any time.
This month we are focusing on a concept that has been in place since MOWINS began. When users are in a participant folder, only one (1) person, should be in that folder at a time. Once a user is finished in a participant folder they should close out of that folder to prevent any data confusion. The Help Desk has received calls regarding a staff person attempting to enter in information into a screen in which MOWINS does not accept it, or they entered in information that did not save. These issues occur when more than one person is in that participant folder.
Example: Breastfeeding infant is seen in WIC. The Breastfeeding Coordinator opens the participant folder to review the Health Information for that infant. After talking with the household, the Breastfeeding Coordinator requests that they complete their appointment by talking with a Nutritionist. The Breastfeeding Coordinator accidently leaves the participant folder open to the Health Information screen. The Nutritionist talks with the household and determines that the infant lives in a house with family members who smoke, so they make the changes to the Health Information screen to document this fact. The Nutritionist completes their part and closes out of the participant folder. In the meantime, the Breastfeeding Coordinator returns to their workstation and also closes out of the participant folder. Because the Breastfeeding Coordinator was the last user in the Health Information screen, MOWINS will only save the information from that last transaction. Information entered by the Nutritionist was not saved.
We hope this tip encourages best practices to our WIC clinics, and we welcome any questions you may have regarding this tip. To contact the MOWINS Help Desk please call 800-554-2544 or email WICHelpDesk@health.mo.gov
