JOB POSTING: Part-Time WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor - St. Charles County Health Department

SUBJECT 1: National WIC Association (NWA) Update. NWA has prepared a number of resources to provide members with the information that they need to reassure affected participants based upon confusion about immigrants’ use of WIC and other programs.

  • Webinar on Friday 2/23 at 1pm ET: NWA’s Government Affairs team will present background and context on the leaked documents and what we expect from the Department of Homeland Security and other policymakers. The webinar will also provide guidance on how to respond to participant concerns. Please register for the webinar here.
  • Updated Survey on Effects of Proposed Rule: NWA needs to know the extent to which the leaked draft is creating a culture of fear in WIC. Please help NWA accurately document the harm created by this proposal so that we can communicate this harm to policymakers and provide them a firsthand account of the infants, children, and mothers being deprived of crucial health and nutrition services. Please take a moment to fill out the survey here.
  • Talking Points and FAQs: NWA has prepared some guidance that will help agencies, clinics, and participants better understand the developments around public charge. These talking points should be distributed to clinics for use by WIC staff, and this FAQ sheet can be handed directly to concerned participants.

Thank you for your patience and commitment to serve all WIC families. Please direct any questions about public charge to Brian Dittmeier at bdittmeier@nwica.org

SUBJECT 2: Breast Pump Order. Medela is shipping the single user personal double electric breast pumps the week of February 26th; we have not received an ETA on when the Hygeia products are shipping. Please remember that the following procedure must be followed in order to verify receipt of shipment for payment and to receive the required WIC tags from the state agency:

  • Immediately upon receipt of shipment, please locate the packing slip and verify that your agency received the products and quantities stated.
  • Sign the packing slip to verify the order is correct.
  • Fax the signed packing slip to the state agency at 573-526-1470. WIC tags will be mailed to your agency upon receipt of your packing slip.
  • If your agency did not receive what was stated on the packing slip, please contact the state agency immediately.

If you have any questions, please contact Jamie Larson by email at Jamie.Larson@health.mo.gov or by telephone at 573-526-5270.

SUBJECT 3: Social Media Workshop. The Missouri WIC program is offering a social media workshop on Monday, June 4, 2018. Hannah Shultz, formerly with the National WIC Association, will present a 5-hour training in Jefferson City. Lunch will be on your own. The goal of the workshop is to learn what social media is, why it’s important to your work, and how to build a social media strategy. Please see the attached flyer. Online registration for the training is located here; there is no registration deadline. Confirmation will be emailed after you have completed the registration process. If you have any questions, please contact Jamie Larson at Jamie.Larson@health.mo.gov
