Once the WIC-27 has expired, please work with the participant’s health care provider to find a substitute that is on the revised FFRG Formula Listing. The special formulas listed above will be inactivated in MOWINS on November 1, 2018. Please see previous WIC Updates on the changes and inactivation dates in MOWINS for the ready-to-use (RTU) versions of Enfamil Gentlease and Enfamil Infant. SUBJECT 2: Invitation for the FFY 2019 Breastfeeding Peer Counseling (BFPC) Program. If your agency is interested in participating in the FFY 2019 BFPC program, please see the attached letter. To apply, please complete the online application and attach your BFPC agency plan. For those who have access, your user ID and password will be the same as the one used for the LAP and WIC online invoice. If you have not completed an ASAP to request access, please see “SUBJECT 3: ASAP Information for Completing BFPC and WIC Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic Applications” in this week’s WIC Update. Even if your agency is currently participating in the BFPC program, you must still apply each year. The deadline for completing the application is COB on Friday, May 25, 2018. If you have any questions please contact Nancy Keim at Nancy.Keim@health.mo.gov or by phone at 573-290-5819.
SUBJECT 3: WIC Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic Application. The purpose of this statewide effort is to implement evidence-based breastfeeding strategies to encourage and recognize local agencies that offer an optimal level of breastfeeding support. The WIC Breastfeeding Task Force worked with the state agency to develop the specific criteria that must be met to be recognized as a “Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic.”
If your agency would like to apply for “Breastfeeding Friendly” status for FFY 2019, complete the online application. If you completed an ASAP request for the BFPC application you will also have access to this application. Once it is determined that your agency meets all the criteria, your agency will be recognized as a “Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic” for FFY 2019 and will receive a framed certificate to hang in your clinic and additional funding. The deadline for completing the application is COB on Friday, May 25, 2018. If you have any questions please contact Lisa Schlientz at Lisa.Schlientz@health.mo.gov or by phone at 573-751-6468.
SUBJECT 4: ASAP Information for Completing BFPC and WIC Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic Applications. The applications for the Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program and the Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic designation are completed online. To access the online application, you must complete an ASAP request. WIC Online Invoice and LAP access does not provide you access to this application. If you previously requested and received access to these applications, you will NOT need to do it again this year. Below are the values that need to be selected when completing the ASAP form:

- April 26th from 3-4 p.m.
The MOWINS Help Desk will check email and voicemail frequently during the closure time and will respond as soon as possible.
SUBJECT 6: Social Media Workshop. The Missouri WIC program is offering a social media workshop on Monday, June 4, 2018. Hannah Shultz, formerly with the National WIC Association, will present a 5-hour training in Jefferson City. Lunch will be on your own. The goal of the workshop is to learn what social media is, why it’s important to your work, and how to build a social media strategy. Please see the attached flyer. Online registration for the training is located here; there is no registration deadline. Confirmation will be emailed after you have completed the registration process. If you have any questions, please contact Jamie Larson at Jamie.Larson@health.mo.gov
SUBJECT 7: New! Add/Replace Report. The new data report, Add/Replace, shows all checks issued through “Add/Replace” in MOWINS within the past year. A shorter time frame (1-11 months) may be requested as a parameter. Any general note entered on the same day as the “Add/Replace” check was issued is printed on the report. SOAP notes entered on that same day are indicated, but not printed in its entirety on the report. Food items printed on the “Add/Replace” check are listed. Amounts of food items are not listed. If the check was issued as a direct ship (formula issued off the shelf, shipped from the state agency, or manufacturer) the report shows “DS”.
Use this report to:
- Monitor the issuance of checks issued through “Add/Replace”
- Review documentation for “Add/Replace”
- Ensure formula issued from the shelf is issued as a direct ship through “Add/Replace”
- Ensure staff are working within their scope
Please contact your assigned district nutritionist if you have questions.
