SUBJECT 1: JOB OPPORTUNITY: Nutritionist III - DHSS Northeast District Health Office. The Bureau of WIC and Nutrition Services has an opening for a Nutritionist III at the DHSS Northeast District Health Office in Macon. Responsibilities include providing technical assistance to local agencies, monitoring, policy review and revision, special formula approvals, and applying health data in program planning. Excellent customer service, written and verbal communication, teamwork, confidentiality and prioritization are required skills. A registered dietitian, licensed in Missouri, is preferred. SUBJECT 2: WIC Invoices. WIC invoices for May 2017 (submitted for payment in the month of June), along with prior months, must be submitted through the Online WIC Invoicing System by close of business Thursday, June 8, 2017. Invoices submitted after that date will be held and paid in July 2017. This change in schedule complies with the close of the State Fiscal Year 2017 payment processing deadlines. SUBJECT 3: Sesame Street Nutrition Educational Kit “eat well: anytime, anywhere!”. The State Agency shipped new bilingual Sesame Street nutrition educational kits “eat well: anytime, anywhere!” to Local Agencies who ordered. The kits are available from the DHSS warehouse. Please order additional kits using the WIC 8 Resource Supply Request form (revised 05-17) as needed; click here, and select the Resource Order Forms drop-down list. SUBJECT 4: CEU Corner.
Research Update on the DASH Dietary Pattern
The Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) dietary eating pattern, which emphasizes low-fat and non-fat dairy foods, fruit, vegetables and whole grains, is one of the most widely prescribed dietary modifications for reducing blood pressure and cardiovascular disease risk. Please join Ronald M. Krauss, MD and Becky Schaffer, MS, RDN, LD for a recorded webinar sponsored by the Midwest Dairy Council. In this webinar, Dr. Krauss will present the latest research that supports the DASH Eating Plan as a tool for the prevention of a variety of health conditions, with a specific focus on key food components. He will review research on the modification of the DASH diet to allow for more liberal total and saturated fat intake, in conjunction with moderate carbohydrate intake resulting in similar benefits to blood pressure and no deleterious effects on lipid risk factors. Becky Schaffer will provide guidance on translating the DASH diet into real-life situations for dietitians and other health professionals.
JOB POSTING: Full-Time WIC Clerk/Health Professional Assistant (HPA) - Family Care Health Centers. Family Care Health Centers is accepting applications for a full-time WIC Clerk/Health Professional Assistant (HPA). Responsibilities include determining eligibility of WIC applicants; collecting and documenting height, weight, and hgb data; and providing clerical support. Strong customer service skills required.
Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED; 1+ years WIC experience preferred.
