SUBJECT 1: 2017 National Nutrition Month. National Nutrition Month is a campaign sponsored annually by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. It’s held every March and focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices, and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. An In-Depth Look into the Dietary Guidelines
Registered Dietitians have had a year to examine, interpret, and work with the 2015 Dietary Guidelines. In that time, the profession has gained a more thorough understanding of the changes to the Dietary Guidelines, as well as the implications of these changes. Moreover, there has been an opportunity to explore and resolve the numerous controversies regarding the Dietary Guidelines that emerged in the dietetics profession over the past year. This recorded webinar helps nutrition professionals to communicate healthy eating messages to their clients that are consistent with the Dietary Guidelines. The live version of this webinar was presented by Toby Amidor, MS, RD, CDN and sponsored by Monsanto and Today’s Dietitian.
Evidence-Based Nutrition: The Problem of Proof
Randomized clinical trials are accepted as the “gold standard” for establishing cause-and-effect relationships. Nonetheless, most nutrition trials have demonstrated null outcomes with regard to reducing the risk of chronic disease. This has led to skepticism about the importance of specific nutrients or nutrient combinations in health and disease by clinicians, researchers, funding agencies, and the public. This recorded webinar will show the distinct differences between the evidence needed for testing of drugs versus that needed for the development of nutrient requirements and dietary guidance.
