SUBJECT 1:Use of the “And Justice For All” Poster (WIC 72). The appropriate “And Justice For All” poster should be prominently displayed in all WIC clinics--including satellite sites--where it can be viewed by WIC participants/applicants. The poster (WIC 72) is available from the DHSS warehouse and can be ordered using the WIC Resource request form (WIC 8). All “And Justice For All” posters must be displayed in a specific size: 11” (width) x 17” (height). The poster that is available through the USDA/FNS website is not the correct size, and should only be used for reference; it should not be printed and displayed. SUBJECT 2: Online Registration for Cultural Competency 301 Training.On-line registration for the Cultural Competency 301 Training is now open! This training is open to all local WIC staff. Seating is limited and the link will close when the number of registrations reaches the maximum capacity for each site. Deadline to register is July 30, 2016. The tentative agenda is attached. SUBJECT 3: WIC Invoices. WIC invoices for May 2016 (submitted for payment in the month of June), along with prior months, must be submitted through the Online WIC Invoicing System by close of business Wednesday, June 8, 2016. Invoices submitted after that date will be held and paid in July 2016. This change in schedule complies with the close of the State Fiscal Year 2016 payment processing deadlines. SUBJECT 4: FY16 Pandora Ad Campaign Released. The FY16 “Thrive to 5” Pandora ad campaign has been released. The Pandora ad and graphics have been added to the Social Media Tools webpage located here. When the question “How heard about WIC?” is asked during certification, please select “Social Media” from the drop-down listing in MOWINS if the participant reports they heard the advertisement on Pandora. This will ensure proper tracking of social media contacts. This campaign will run May 20th - September 30th, 2016. Growth Chart Training by Centers for Disease Controland Prevention(CDC). The CDC offers a set of free, self-directed, interactive training courses for health care professionals using the pediatric growth charts in clinical and public health settings to assess growth of infants, children, and teens.
The CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommend that health care providers in primary care settings in the United States, use the WHO growth standard charts to monitor the growth of children aged birth to younger than 2 years regardless of type of feeding; and to use the 2000 CDC growth reference charts to monitor growth of children aged 2 until aged 20 years. The overall purpose of the training is to provide health care professionals in the United States with expertise on using and interpreting the growth charts. JOB POSTING: Nutritionist - Crescent Clinic WIC (Jackson County, MO). Crescent Clinic WIC has an opening for a Nutritionist/Dietitian for the WIC program 35 hours per week. This position will be responsible for determining eligibility of WIC participants and providing nutrition & breastfeeding counseling to WIC participants. Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, Foods and Nutrition, Home Economics, or closely related field, with at least 15 semester hours in Human Nutrition including courses in Diet Therapy and Community Nutrition. WIC experience preferred but not required. Certification as a Registered Dietitian is not required. This position is open until filled. JOB POSTING: Nutritionist - City of St. Joseph Health Department. This position assists with administering the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program while following the policies and procedures established by the federal and state government. The Nutritionist will also provide nutrition and breastfeeding counseling for the program participants. No supervisory responsibilities and limited budgetary responsibilities. Minimum qualifications include: Bachelor’s Degree in a nutrition-related field with at least 15 semester hours in food and nutrition; including at least one course in Diet Therapy and one course in Community Nutrition.
