JOB POSTING: Part-Time WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor - City of St. Joseph Health Department


SUBJECT 1: 2016 Annual WIC Retailer Training. In July and August 2016, there will be annual training sessions held statewide for authorized WIC retailers. If your agency would like to send a representative to attend a training session in your area, please submit a training registration form by 5 p.m. on June 30, 2016. The registration form can be submitted by email to Susan Demsko at Susan.Demsko@health.mo.gov or by fax to 573-526-1470. The registration form and training schedule are attached.

The training sessions will last approximately 90 minutes. Please be aware that WIC retail stores will be given first priority for training sessions as the training is mandatory for all authorized WIC retailers. If the session you have selected is full, you will be contacted to attempt to register you for another session in your area.

SUBJECT 2: Updated “WIC Facts For Employers” Handout. The “WIC Facts for Employers” handout (WIC 65) is updated to include the new income guidelines (Effective April 1, 2016 - March 31, 2017). This handout was designed to be included in an outreach packet for employers. Other resources that would be beneficial to employers include:

  • Welcome to WIC (#1204 English/#1200 Spanish)
  • A referral list of health services
  • A listing of other available services in the area

All local agencies will receive one pad (50 sheets) of the updated “WIC Facts for Employers” handout during the month of June, which is also available from the DHSS warehouse. Please order using the WIC Resource Order Form (WIC 8) as needed. A Spanish version will also be available. If you have any questions, please contact Takako Tagami at Takako.Tagami@health.mo.gov. SUBJECT 3: CEU Corner.Communicating with Participants is available through WIC Learning Online for 1 CEU for any WIC staff member. This course has been designed to assist in all areas of providing WIC nutrition services. There are 3 modules that make up the content for this course: Providing Quality Customer Service, Communicating with Limited Literacy Audiences and Working in a Multicultural Environment. JOB POSTING: Part-Time WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor - City of St. Joseph Health Department. The City of St. Joseph Health Department is currently accepting applications for a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor position within the WIC Program. The selected candidate will give basic breastfeeding information, support and encouragement to pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers, and serve as a role model for breastfeeding women.
