SUBJECT 1: Invitation for FY 2017 Breastfeeding Peer Counseling (BFPC) Program. If your agency is interested in participating in the FFY 2017 BFPC program, please see the attached letter. To apply, please click here to complete the online application and attach your BFPC agency plan. For those who have access, your User ID and Password will be the same as the one used for the LAP and WIC online invoice. If you have not completed an ASAP to request access,please see SUBJECT 3. Even if your agency is currently participating in the BFPC program, you must still apply each year. The deadline for completing the application is COB on Friday, May 20, 2016. SUBJECT 2: WIC Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic Application. The purpose of this statewide effort is to implement evidence-based breastfeeding strategies to encourage and recognize local WIC providers that offer an optimal level of breastfeeding support. The WIC Breastfeeding Task Force worked with the state office to develop the specific criteria that must be met to be recognized as a “Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic”.
If your agency would like to apply for “Breastfeeding Friendly” status for FFY2017, please click here to complete the online application. If you completed an ASAP request for the BFPC application you will also have access to this application. Once it is determined that your agency meets all the criteria your agency will be recognized as a “Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic” for FFY2017 and will receive a framed certificate to hang in your clinic and additional funding. SUBJECT 3: ASAP Information for Completing BFPC and WIC Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic Applications. The applications for the Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program and the Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic designation are completed online. In order to use the online application, you must complete an ASAP request to have access. Having access to the WIC online invoice and the LAP does not provide you access to this application. If you did this a previous year, you will NOT need to do it again this year. Below are the values that need to be selected when completing the ASAP form:

SUBJECT 4: Change in State Staff Duties - Computer Equipment. Effective immediately, Cheryl West is the primary contact for Local WIC Provider staff regarding WIC computer equipment. Mark Davis continues with other duties as the WIC Assistant Chief. When you have WIC computer issues, please refer to the updated table below for the appropriate contact.

SUBJECT 5: Save The Date - Cultural Competency 301 Training. The goal of the training is to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to feel comfortable working with culturally diverse families. The information in this training includes:
- Becoming familiar with the concepts of cultural diversity and building cultural competence
- Learning about the Missouri Refugee Settlement Program and health issues that affect refugee populations
- Assisting WIC agencies in providing culturally appropriate services
Dates and locations for the trainings are listed below.
- Jefferson City - September 8th
- St. Charles - September 9th
- Independence - September 21st
Springfield - September 27th
This is a one-day training from 8:30am-3:30 p.m. and is open to all staff. CPE hours for Registered Dietitians will be available. SUBJECT 6: Free webinar: “Mindset, Motivation, and the Argument for Change” by Jim Ott. Jim Ott, a school psychologist and Bridges Out of Poverty Consultant with aha! Process, will discuss A Framework for Understanding Poverty and Bridges Out of Poverty principles and their application through Getting Ahead in a Just-Gettin’-By World.
Jim will focus on these issues from a psychologist’s perspective - why the principles work and how we can apply them individually and systemically to facilitate real change in individuals and families. The webinar is scheduled for Thursday, June 2, 2016 from 11:00am-12:00pm CST.
JOB POSTING: Full-Time WIC Nutritionist (Registered Dietitian Preferred) - Butler County Health Department. The Butler County Health Department is accepting applications/ resumes for a full-time Registered Dietitian or Nutritionist. Responsibilities include planning and implementing the nutritional components of the WIC program, completing the job functions of a WIC Nutritionist, providing nutrition and breastfeeding counseling and education to eligible families. Duties may include supervising the operation of the WIC clinic comprised of WIC Certifiers, Nutritionists, and a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor. Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in dietetics, public health nutrition, human nutrition, nutritional sciences, nutrition and fitness, sports nutrition, restaurant and food management, foods, family and consumer sciences, human environmental sciences, or home economics; including or supplemented by at least 15 semester hours in foods and nutrition from a 4-year program, including at least one course in diet therapy I & II and one course in community nutrition or nutrition in life cycle/life cycle nutrition. The Betty Jean Kerr People’s Health Centers WIC Program is accepting resumes for a full-time nutritionist in St. Louis Missouri. Applicants must have graduated from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in public health nutrition, dietetics, nutrition, food, home economics, or a closely related field, including or supplemented by at least 15 semester hours in food and nutrition, including diet therapy and community nutrition. JOB POSTING: Registered Dietitian - Marion County Health Department. The Marion County Health Department is seeking a full-time registered dietitian (RD) to provide WIC services, create community nutrition programs, and provide nutritional counseling for public health. The RD candidate must possess a current and valid Missouri RD license. They must have excellent people and computer skills. Candidate must be willing to travel if necessary, and work outside normal workday hours. WIC experience is preferred, but not required. JOB POSTING: WIC Nutritionist - Platte County Health Department WIC. Platte County Health Department’s WIC Clinic is seeking a Nutritionist to provide individual assessment and counseling, support for breastfeeding, pregnant and post-partum women, infants and children to age 5. Duties also include individual and group education, and responsible for daily clinic functions. Position is available for 4 days a week, full time (40 hrs/wk), position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition including fifteen credit hours of food and nutrition. WIC experience helpful. Must be reliable and able to work in a team environment. Excellent customer service skills and professional demeanor is expected at all times. Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license.
