SUBJECT 1: Mandatory Administrative Update Training - Registration Closes Monday, February 23, 2015. USDA recently conducted a Management Evaluation of Missouri WIC. The WIC State Office is holding two trainings to provide guidance on the Nutrition and Administrative findings. The Administrative Update Trainings have now been scheduled for early in March 2015 at 8 locations throughout the state. The WIC Coordinator from each agency must attend. Other WIC local agency staff is encouraged to attend. This is a half-day training scheduled from 8:00 am - 12 noon or 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm. SUBJECT 2: Food Package Changes - Effective April 1, 2015: The State Office will implement new food package changes on April 1, 2015. Please share the attached items with staff:
- A list of upcoming changes (Table 1) & food item description changes (Table 2)
- Instructions on “MOWINS - Issuing Standard Contract Formula to Infants with Medical Documentation”
MOWINS will NOT be shut down on March 31, 2015 at 4pm. The April 1 food package changes do not require MOWINS to be shut down. Agencies that have clinics scheduled during the evening hours on March 31 can operate as normal.
Important! When you log into MOWINS on your computer the first time on/or after April 1, 2015, you must reset/update to assure all changes are pulled down from the server. Contact the WIC Help Desk at 800-554-2544 if you do not see the changes.

Save the Date: April 21st - 22nd, 2015 The Missouri Council for Activity and Nutrition will be hosting a conference on Changing the Future of Childhood Obesity: Aligning and Amplifying Statewide Efforts in Columbia. The goal of the conference is to focus on engaging collaborative treatment practices to advance prevention and treatment for childhood obesity in Missouri. Public health professionals and other staff interested in childhood obesity treatment or prevention are invited to attend. JOB OPENING: Full-Time WIC Nutritionist (Nutrition Technician) - St. Louis County Department of Health. The St. Louis County Department of Health is currently accepting applications for a full-time Nutritionist (Nutrition Technician) in the WIC program. This position is responsible for providing nutrition and breastfeeding counseling and education to eligible families. Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a related field; including or supplemented by 15 semester hours in food and nutrition from a 4-year program. Required course work includes at least one course in diet therapy or medical nutrition therapy I & II and one course in community nutrition or nutrition in the life cycle. WIC experience preferred. JOB OPENING: WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor - St. Louis County Department of Health. The St. Louis County Department of Health is currently accepting applications for two 24hr/week Breastfeeding Peer Counselor positions within the WIC Program. The selected candidates will provide basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers and help mothers achieve their own breastfeeding goals. The selected candidates will also teach prenatal and breastfeeding classes, organize mother support groups and work with other health care professionals to support breastfeeding women. Duties include counseling pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers, teaching prenatal and breastfeeding classes, organizing mother support groups and working with other health care professionals to support breastfeeding women. Qualifications include: 1) Personal successful breastfeeding experience 2)Enthusiastic about breastfeeding and able to assist women in achieving a positive breastfeeding experience 3)Current or previous WIC participation preferred, but not mandatory 4)Excellent communication skills 5)High School diploma or GED.
