SUBJECT 1: WIC Help Desk Meeting. This is a reminder that there will be no WIC Help Desk coverage on Friday, September 19, 2014, from 8:00 am to 10:30 am. Although staff will not be available during these hours, feel free to leave a message and all calls will be returned as soon as possible. The purpose of these meetings is to review processes and procedures in order to provide the highest quality customer service to local agencies and WIC participants.

In our ongoing efforts to better our customer service please remember to complete the WIC Help Desk Customer Service Survey regarding your experience after contacting the WIC Help Desk. SUBJECT 2: 2014 WIC Conference Reminders. The Missouri 2014 WIC Conference “40 Years of WIC,Making A Difference” will be held October 19-21 at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia. The theme this year is a 70s theme since WIC began in the 70s. Dressing in your favorite 70’s outfit will be interesting and fun to see. The following are reminders about the conference:

  • 2014 WIC Conference Registration Form: The registration form for the Conference is attached. The form is also located at the following web site: site as well. Each agency needs to register, even if the state has funded the registration. Room rates are $89.95 for single/double occupancy plus state and local taxes. Reservation deadline is 9/19/14. Reservations received after 9/19/14 are subject to space availability and at prevailing room rates. For reservations call the hotel directly at 1-800-HOLIDAY (1-800-465-4329). Please tell the reservation desk that you are with the Missouri WIC Conference to receive your discounted rate. Reserve early as rooms will fill quickly. (ONE ATTACHMENT) 
  • Basket Raffle Fundraiser- Due - September 29th - The Missouri WIC Association will sponsor the Basket Raffle again this year and would like to invite you to donate a basket to the 2014 Basket Raffle Fundraiser. The MO WIC Association is hoping to have over 40 baskets to raffle in honor of “40 Years of WIC” so be creative and we hope to see you at the Conference.   • WIC Conference Selfie Pictures and Stories - Due - September 29th - As you know we are making plans for the WIC 40th Celebration. We hope you all will take the time to provide us stories and selfies (pictures) of you, your WIC staff and participants. This will make the celebration even more fun. Attached is a poster of selfies you can post in your clinic to encourage staff and participants to submit seflies and their WIC stories. SUBJECT 3: WIC Final Food Rule Phase 1 Training - Posted September 9th. The PowerPoint of the WIC Final Food Rule Phase 1 training has been posted in the WIC Training Portal > LWP Staff category > Program Updates link > e-Learning section. The training will provide counseling staff with an overview of the WIC food packages since the release of the USDA final food rule. SUBJECT 4: Formula Description and Formula Size Changes EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 1, 2014. Changes listed in the attached memo will be implemented in MOWINS on October 1, 2014. The Food & Formula Reference Guide (FFRG) will be updated accordingly and be released on September 22, 2014. Please share the upcoming changes with all of your staff and advise your participants who are on these formulas accordingly. SUBJECT 5: WIC Facts for Employers Handout. A new handout titled “WIC Facts for Employers” has been developed by the WIC state office as an outreach tool for local agencies. Local agencies may contact the Human Resources Manager for large employers in their area and leave a packet containing the Welcome to WIC brochure, a referral list of health services, and listings of other available services in the area. A supply of these handouts will be shipped to agencies the week of September 15, 2014 and then will be available from the DHSS warehouse. A copy of the handout is attached. The Benton County Health Department WIC Program is accepting resumes for a part-time nutritionist (that could work into full-time as caseload increases) for the WIC Program. Applicants must have graduated from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in public health, dietetics, nutrition, food, home economics, or a closely related field, including or supplemented by at least 15 semester hours in food and nutrition, including diet therapy and community nutrition.
