  1. Measles Outbreak: Some of you may be aware that there is currently a measles outbreak in Northwest Missouri. This particular outbreak is currently impacting members of a particular community that seem to have a lower immunization rate against measles than the general population. However, due to the particular facts of this outbreak other parts of the state are also vulnerable to having measles cases in their jurisdiction as well. Please keep in mind, infants would typically not be vaccinated until one year of age, meaning that they are particularly vulnerable to the disease.

Additional resources regarding measles can be found at: http://www.cdc.gov/measles/
A fact sheet for the Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program can be found at:
http://health.mo.gov/living/wellness/immunizations/pdf/InformationforParents.pdf The fact sheet can also be ordered directly from the warehouse. Please feel free to share this factsheet with parents needing to access vaccines that may have children eligible for the VFC. If you have questions please contact: The Bureau of Immunizations 800-219-3224 and ask for your County Liaison.
  2. *New* WIC Training Portal - Implementation July 1st: WIC Training Portal: On Tuesday, July 1st the State WIC Office will introduce the New WIC Training Portal. The portal will allow staff to access WIC trainings directly from the main page. The next MOWINS Hot Topics session is scheduled for Friday, July 18, 2014 from 8:30 am to 10:30 am and will provide more information about the WIC Training Portal. It will consist of a live webinar and a conference call with State WIC staff. MOWINS Hot Topics sessions are open to all LWP staff, but registration is required.
