EMSC Advisory Committee Announcement

NHTSA Releases "Progress on Evidence-Based Guidelines for Prehospital Emergency Care"
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has released "Progress on Evidence-Based Guidelines for Prehospital Emergency Care," a technical report providing background on the importance of an evidence-based guidelienes (EBG) model in improving the quality of prehospital care. The report also describes the development of the EBG model process and the steps taken to develop a pilot. This report highlights the work done by NHTSA's Office of EMS, the EMS for Children (EMSC) Program, and EMS stakeholders to create and pilot a test model for developing and implementing evidence-based guidelines for prehospital emergency care.

SAMHSA Podcast: Tips for Helping Children and Youth Cope in the Aftermath of Disasters
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has released "Tips for Helping Children and Youth Cope in the Aftermath of Disasters," a podcast focusing on the common reactions of and helpful approaches for children and youth involved in a disaster or traumatic event. The podcast also features implementation coping strategies to promote resilience from communities that have experienced traumatic events.

Now Available: Tracking and Reunification of Children in Disasters
The National Center for Disaster Medicine and Public Health has released "Tracking and Reunification of Children in Disasters: A Lesson and Reference for Health Professionals." The online course focuses on responding to an unaccompanied child in a disaster. It is accredited for Continuing Education credit.

Collaborative Tool Kit Applauded by National Organizations Wanting to Improve Transfer Processes for the Pediatric Patient
The EMS for Children National Resource Center, the Emergency Nurses Association, and the Society of Trauma Nurses released the Inter Facility Tool Kit for the Pediatric Patient. This collaborative tool kit illustrates the important role partnerships play on the production and dissemination of a product.

American College of Emergency Physicians releases crisis preparation browser game Disaster Hero
A browser-based game designed to instruct families in disaster preparation, emphasizes the importance of being prepared, including having a detailed emergency plan and kits for certain geographical disasters including earthquakes, floods, tornadoes and hurricanes. Through arcade, puzzle and hidden-object type minigames, players will learn safety measures for these occurrences.

Now Live: AAP Children and Disasters Website 
The newly redesigned American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Children and Disasters website is now live. This comprehensive website provides access to key resources organized by audience and topic, as well as pediatric preparedness tools and projects.
