SUBJECT 1: Loving Support Award of Excellence. Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) has announced that the Loving Support Award of Excellence application period is now open. The Loving Support Award of Excellence was developed to recognize and celebrate local WIC agencies that provide exemplary breastfeeding programs and support services. Over the last two years the award has been given, Missouri has had 12 local WIC agencies that have met the criteria and were recognized.

Three levels of excellence will be recognized and awarded: Gold, Gold Premiere, and Gold Elite. The award is valid for a 4 year period; however an agency may apply for an award of higher achievement the following year after receiving an award.

The main qualification to apply is for the local WIC agency to have a Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program that meets all of the required core components of the FNS Loving Support© Model for a successful peer counseling program for at least a year. All of Missouri’s “Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinics” should, at a minimum, meet the Gold level and are all encouraged to apply.

SUBJECT 2: CEU Corner.
Youth Wellness Interventions from Home to School
This live webinar will be held on November 7th from 3:00-4:00 pm. USDA Deputy Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services, Dr. Katie Wilson, will be joined by a child nutrition specialist to address how environmental and developmental factors influence children’s food preferences. Dr. Wilson will also examine school nutrition intervention programs and strategies that work well in the school environment.

Recognizing Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome (FPIES) and the Important Role of Dietary Management

There is a general lack of awareness about FPIES, which has led to this condition being frequently misdiagnosed. This recorded webinar presented by Matthew Greenhawt, MD, MBA, MSc, FAAP (Allergist) and Marion Groetch, MS, RDN (Registered Dietitian) will help participants learn how to identify and successfully manage the pediatric patient with FPIES. This is an ideal educational opportunity for those looking to enhance their knowledge and skills on FPIES management.
