SUBJECT 1: National WIC Association (NWA) 2017 WIC Calendars. The State WIC office plans to purchase 2017 National WIC Association calendars. The order survey link will be sent to WIC coordinators on May 17, 2016. Please complete the survey by May 30, 2016, so we can ensure we order enough calendars and have them ready to ship by November 15, 2016. SUBJECT 2: Prenatal and Newborn Health Literature Available. Missouri’s 140-page collaborative resource guide, Pregnancy and Beyond, provides information to Missouri mothers about their pregnancies and the development of their infants. The Missouri-specific prenatal and newborn health booklet is not only a comprehensive reference for health information, but also a place to record the progress of a mother’s pregnancy and the baby’s development through five years of age. The booklet is available at no cost to Missouri residents, is available in English or Spanish, and can be ordered from the DHSS warehouse at http://www.health.mo.gov/warehouse/e-literature.html by using the assigned catalog number: #1081 Pregnancy and Beyond-English or #1082 Pregnancy and Beyond-Spanish. SUBJECT 3: WIC Invoices. WIC invoices for May 2016 (submitted for payment in the month of June), along with prior months, must be submitted through the Online WIC Invoicing System by close of business Wednesday, June 8, 2016. Invoices submitted after that date will be held and paid in July 2016. This change in schedule complies with the close of the State Fiscal Year 2016 payment processing deadlines. SUBJECT 4: CEU Corner.
Achieving A Healthful Omega Balance. A free course for 2 CEUs, provided by Today’s Dietitian. Course content written by Kristen Mancinelli, MS, RDN, a dietitian in private practice. This continuing education course reviews the physiologic functions of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and their role in promoting optimal health and preventing or improving the symptoms of certain diseases, including cardiovascular disease and chronic inflammatory conditions. It also discusses the optimal ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 intake, how American diets measure up, and the role of supplementation in helping individuals achieve a balanced intake. Register

JOB POSTING:  Nutritionist - Crescent Clinic WIC (Jackson County, MO).  Crescent Clinic WIC has an opening for a Nutritionist/Dietitian for the WIC program 35 hours per week.  This position will be responsible for determining eligibility of WIC participants and providing nutrition & breastfeeding counseling to WIC participants.  Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, Foods and Nutrition, Home Economics, or closely related field, with at least 15 semester hours in Human Nutrition including courses in Diet Therapy and Community Nutrition.  WIC experience preferred but not required.  Certification as a Registered Dietitian is not required.  This position is open until filled.  Please fax resume and cover letter to 816-763-1488 or email to Christine.Wright@lpha.mo.gov. JOB POSTING: Nutritionist - City of St. Joseph Health Department. This position assists with administering the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program while following the policies and procedures established by the federal and state government. The Nutritionist will also provide nutrition and breastfeeding counseling for the program participants. No supervisory responsibilities and limited budgetary responsibilities. Minimum qualifications include: Bachelor’s Degree in a nutrition-related field with at least 15 semester hours in food and nutrition; including at least one course in Diet Therapy and one course in Community Nutrition.
