SUBJECT 3: CEU CORNER

JOB OPENING: NUTRITIONIST - CRESCENT CLINIC WIC (JACKSON COUNTY, MO)

SUBJECT 1: Loving Support Award of Excellence.  FNS has announced that the Loving Support Award of Excellence application period is now open.  The Loving Support Award of Excellence was developed to recognize and celebrate Local WIC agencies that provide exemplary breastfeeding programs and support services.  Last year Missouri had 6 local WIC agencies that met the criteria and were recognized.  There were only 11 local WIC agencies recognized in the entire Mountain Plains Region.

Three levels of excellence will be recognized and awarded: Gold, Gold Premiere, and Gold Elite.  The award is valid for a 4 year period; however an agency may apply for an award of higher achievement the following year after receiving an award.

The main qualification to apply is for the local WIC agency to have a Breastfeeding Peer Counseling program that meets all of the required core components of the FNS Loving Support© Model for a successful peer counseling program for at least a year. All of Missouri’s “Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinics” should, at a minimum, meet the Gold level and are all encouraged to apply.

For the FFY2016 Application, Application Instructions and FAQ please go to http://www.fns.usda.gov/wic/loving-support-award-excellence-program. The deadline to apply is December 11, 2015.  Attached is a PowerPoint presentation with additional information on how to apply. SUBJECT 3: CEU Corner. “We Can!” Ways to Enhance Children's Activity & Nutrition is a national movement designed to give parents, caregivers, and entire communities a way to help children stay at a healthy weight.

The We Can! Energize Our Families: Parent Program is designed to provide parents and primary caregivers with the knowledge and skills they need along with practical tools to help families maintain a healthy weight. Registered dietitians (RDs) may apply for and receive 2 hours of continuing education credits for completing all chapters of this training. Although the target group is a little older, the strategies should be useful.
