JOB OPENING: FULL-TIME WIC NUTRITIONIST (NUTRITION TECHNICIAN) - ST. LOUIS COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH


SUBJECT 1: NWA Leadership Conference Scholarships. The Missouri WIC Office is sponsoring two scholarships for LWP staff to attend the 2016 NWA Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., February 28-March 1. This conference provides a forum to discuss Federal initiatives affecting the health and nutritional well-being of WIC mothers and young children, and WIC’s role as a preventative public health nutrition program. The deadline for applications is January 8, 2016. Please see the attached application for more information. (ONE ATTACHMENT)

SUBJECT 2: CLIA Certificate of Waiver. The Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) is a Federal program which establishes quality standards for all laboratory testing to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of patient test results. The HemoCue analyzers used by WIC are CLIA waived, which means they require a Certificate of Waiver. DHSS-WIC has purchased a CLIA Certificate of Waiver for Local WIC Provider sites in Missouri. This certificate expires August 18, 2017. This is a waiver for the operation of the HemoCue Analyzer as part of the WIC certification process. We will email the waiver to LWPs next week. SUBJECT 3: Lactation Support Mini-Grant for Businesses Deadline Extended. The Missouri Breastfeeding Friendly Worksite Program is a state-wide initiative to increase employer support for breastfeeding mothers. The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) is offering up to $500 to a limited number of Missouri employers to create or improve their lactation support policies and programs.

To be eligible to receive a mini-grant, the employer must submit their breastfeeding support policy which must be in compliance with the breastfeeding support requirements from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). To apply, complete the attached application and budget, and submit by December 30, 2015 to karla.voss@health.mo.gov. Please contact 573-522-2820 with any questions. (ONE ATTACHMENT)

SUBJECT 4: Upcoming Holidays. The State WIC office will be closed and there will be no WIC Help Desk coverage on Thanksgiving, November 26; the day after Thanksgiving, November 27, 2015; Christmas, December 25, 2015; and New Year’s Day, January 1, 2016.

SUBJECT 5: Updates of the Participant’s Rights & Responsibilities (WIC 10). Please share the following information with your staff:

The 2013 USDA Civil Rights Statement (CRS) is printed in the WIC 10 (11-15 version). Please continue to use the 11-15 version until the WIC 10 with the 2015 CRS becomes available in 2016. The translated WIC 10 form is available in 17 languages through the WIC website. Please download them as needed.

JOB OPENING: Part-Time Breastfeeding Peer Counselor - Family Care Health Centers. Family Care Health Centers is accepting applications for a part-time (8 hrs./week) Breastfeeding Peer Counselor. Responsibilities include providing breastfeeding information and support to new mothers and their families and helping them achieve their breastfeeding goals. JOB OPENING: Full-Time WIC Nutritionist (Nutrition Technician) - St. Louis County Department of Public Health. The St. Louis County Department of Public Health is currently accepting applications for a full-time Nutritionist (Nutrition Technician) in the WIC program. This position is responsible for providing nutrition and breastfeeding counseling and education to eligible families. Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics, Nutrition or a related field; including or supplemented by 15 semester hours in food and nutrition from a 4-year program. Required course work includes at least one course in diet therapy or medical nutrition therapy I & II and one course in community nutrition or nutrition in the life cycle. WIC experience preferred.
