SUBJECT 1: Mid Certification Assessment Reminder: Mid Certification Assessment (MCA) Appointment - This is a reminder that as more participants come into the clinic for a Mid Certification Assessment (MCA) appointment the process could be different depending upon when the participant was eligible for the program. The WIC staff will be able to determine the correct process after clicking on the “Show Details” on the Participants List Window.

For participants who were placed on the program prior to May 5, 2014, you will use the Participant Folder View to complete the required components. The Participant List Window will not display a MCA Due Date and the MCA CGS Icon will be grayed out.

For participants who were placed on the program after May 5, 2014, the system will display a MCA Due Date on the Participants List Screen. Please remember to use the MCA CGS Icon for the required entries and NOT the participant folder view. To complete the MCA fully click on the STOP button which will generate an MCA completion date in the show details in the bottom of the participant list screen.

It is important to remember that for either method the appropriate staff shall review the Risk Factor tab to determine if any dietary risk factors have been removed. Nutrition Risk Factors (425 & 427) may drop off depending on the questions asked. LWP staff will need to review all risk factors after doing a nutrition assessment and manually assign any that are appropriate and may have dropped off. If you do not re-assign the dietary risk factor in the record (and it was the only qualifying risk factor) it could prevent checks from being printed and issued. Refer to slide 67 of the Nutrition Assessment & Extended Certification Training (MCA)

Please refer to slides 47-72 of the Nutrition Assessment & Extended Certification Training (MCA) training at this link http://health.mo.gov/living/families/wic/wictraining/programupdatestraining.php for clarification. In addition, review policy ER# 2.02800 Certification, Recertification and Infant Follow-Up Components policy. If you have any further questions please contact your TA Nutritionist.
