SUBJECT 2: Learning Dynamics Customer Services WIC Note. Attached is the latest issue of “Customer Service Notes for WIC” from Learning Dynamics. This issue discusses adapting to change. Please share this with all WIC staff. If you have any questions, please discuss with your TA District Nutritionist. (ONE ATTACHMENT)

SUBJECT 3: Save the Date - University of Minnesota National Maternal Nutrition Intensive Course Seminar Telecast. Nutrition Education Opportunity: WIC Registered Dietitians, Nutritionists, and Public Health Nurses who serve pre-conceptual, pregnant, post-partum and breastfeeding women will want to take advantage of the full two-day National Maternal Nutrition Intensive Course Seminar shown on September 24-25 and again on October 15-16, 2015 in Jefferson City. This year's continuing education program focuses on Vitamin D in Pregnancy and Lactation, Promoting Breastfeeding Among Obese Women, Environmental & Policy Approaches to Breastfeeding Promotion & Support, Depression and Physical Activity in Pregnancy & Postpartum, Fetal Origins of Disease, Choline Supplementation in Children with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, Nutrient Contents of Infant and Toddler Foods, and Food Allergies. This training is presented by the University of Minnesota’s School of Public Health and will be shown by the WICNS’ Nutrition Training Institute (NTI). Please watch for registration form and additional details to be sent in a few weeks.

Please note: this seminar will be held in Jefferson City, Missouri, by the NTI. LWPs also have the option to host the video-streaming seminar in their local agency if they choose. SUBJECT 4: Webinar on Child Retention Strategies in WIC. On August 26, FNS will host a one-hour webinar describing WIC child retention strategies currently underway for all State and local WIC agencies. The webinar will highlight three State agencies that have developed initiatives to increase the participation of children between the ages of one and four. The National WIC Director will provide an introduction and overview of the issue. The Arizona WIC Program will describe their focus group findings about obstacles to continued participation in WIC as well as describe their WIC Special Project Full Grant. The Vermont WIC Program will describe their WIC Special Project Mini Grant - WIC2Five: Using Mobile Health Education Messaging to Support Program Retention. The Minnesota WIC Program will describe their outreach/education to medical providers of WIC participants to encourage their continued participation in WIC. The Child Retention Webinar is scheduled for August 26, 2015: 1:00-2:00 CT. As we receive more information regarding accessing the webinar, we will forward this to the LWPS via a WIC Weekly Update. For those who will not be able to be on the August 26 webinar, it will be recorded for viewing at a later date.

JOB OPENING: WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor - Affinia Healthcare. Affinia Healthcare has an immediate opening for a part time (18-24 hours per week) Peer Counselor in the WIC program. The candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent and breastfed one baby (does not have to be currently breastfeeding). The selected candidate will provide basic breastfeeding information and encouragement to WIC eligible prenatal and breastfeeding moms and express enthusiasm about breastfeeding and help mothers enjoy a positive experience. The candidate must be willing to accept after hour phone calls and make home and hospital visits. JOB OPENING: Nutritionist/Dietitian - Affinia Healthcare. Affinia Healthcare has an immediate opening for a full time Nutritionist/Dietitian in the WIC program. The candidate must have graduated from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health Nutrition, Dietetics, Home Economic, or closely related field; including or supplemented by at least fifteen (15) semester hours in food and nutrition including diet therapy and community nutrition. The selected candidate will provide nutrition education to WIC eligible participants and assess their nutritional needs for certification eligibility. JOB OPENING: Part-Time WIC Registration Dietitian/Nutritionist - Pike County Health Department. The Pike County Health Department is accepting applications for a part time Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist in the WIC Program. This position is responsible for planning and implementation of the nutritional components of the local WIC Program as well as providing nutrition and breastfeeding counseling and education to eligible families. JOB OPENING: Registered Dietitian - St. Louis County Department of Health. The St. Louis County Department of Health is currently accepting applications for a Registered Dietitian to work out of the North Central Community Health Center in Pine Lawn. The selected candidate will provide nutrition counseling and medical nutrition therapy to health center patients; certify eligible patients for the WIC program and develop and implement nutrition presentations/programs for patients and the community. Applicants must be registered or eligible for registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and be licensed as a dietitian with the State of Missouri.
