JOB OPENING: BREASTFEEDING PEER COUNSELOR - ST. CHARLES COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT


SUBJECT 1: JOB OPPORTUNITY: Nutritionist III - DHSS Southeast District Health Office. The Bureau of WIC and Nutrition Services has an opening for a Nutritionist III in the Southeast District Health Office in Poplar Bluff/Cape Girardeau area. Responsibilities include providing technical assistance to local WIC providers, monitoring, policy review and revision, special formula approvals, applying health data in program planning, and occasionally acting as a preceptor for dietetic interns. Excellent customer service, written and verbal communication, teamwork, confidentiality and prioritization are required skills. A registered dietitian, licensed in Missouri, is required. SUBJECT 2: ASAP Information for Completing BFPC and WIC BF Friendly WIC Clinic Applications. The applications for the Breastfeeding Peer Counseling program and the Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic designation are completed online. In order to use the online application, you must complete an ASAP request to have access. Having access to the WIC online invoice and the LAP does not provide you access to this application. If you did this last year, you will NOT need to do it again this year. Below are the values that need to be selected when completing the ASAP form:

SUBJECT 3: Invitation for FY 2016 Breastfeeding Peer Counseling (BFPC) Program. If your agency is interested in participating in the FFY 2016 BFPC program, please see the attached letter. If your agency is interested in applying, please click here to complete the online application and attach your BFPC agency plan. For those who have access, your User ID and Password will be the same as the one used for the LAP and WIC online invoice. If you have not completed an ASAP to request access, please see the message above. If your agency is currently participating in the BFPC program, you must still apply each year. The deadline for completing the application is COB on Friday, May 22, 2015. SUBJECT 4: WIC Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic Application. The purpose of this statewide effort is to implement evidence-based breastfeeding strategies to encourage and recognize local WIC providers that offer an optimal level of breastfeeding support. The WIC Breastfeeding Task Force worked with the state office to develop the specific criteria that must be met to be recognized as a “Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic”.

If your agency would like to apply for “Breastfeeding Friendly” status for FFY2016, please click here to complete the online application. If you completed an ASAP request for the BFPC application you will also have access to this application. Once it is determined that your agency meets all the criteria your agency will be recognized as a “Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic” for FFY2016 and will receive a framed certificate to hang in your clinic and additional funding. SUBJECT 5: Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2016 WIC Local Agency Plan (LAP) Training. LAP training will be conducted at the Department’s ITSD Training Room, 920 Wildwood Dr., Jefferson City on June 22, 23, 24, 25 and 26, 2015. The training is optional, but is strongly recommended for new LAP users. The training registration form (attached) is also available at http://health.mo.gov/living/families/wic/wiclwp/training-wic_lap.php and must be submitted by May 15, 2015. SUBJECT 6: Webinar on Substance Use Prevention Resource in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). On May 6, in conjunction with the National WIC Association, FNS plans to host a webinar for (WIC) State and local agency staff. The webinar will provide an overview of a Food and Nutrition Service electronic resource for WIC staff: Substance Use Prevention: Screening, Education, and Referral Resource Guide for Local WIC Agencies, and highlight important information and resources for both WIC staff and participants. This resource is designed to help WIC agency staff integrate alcohol, drug and other harmful substance use related information and referral elements into their clinic activities. The resource contains a wealth of available resources

SUBJECT 7: Nutrition Services Standards (NSS): The Nutrition Services Standards were revised in 2013 by USDA and NWA. There is a task force comprised of Local and State staff who is reviewing the 16 Nutrition Services Standards (NSS) for Missouri. The primary purpose of the NSS is to provide a tool for state and local agencies to self-assess how well they deliver a wide range of nutrition services and subsequently determine how to make improvements in their processes to achieve the desired outcome of delivering quality nutrition services. There are helpful phone numbers, new release information, links to the MOWINS trainings, Hot Topics webinars, reports, enhancements and many other useful resources. Please check the webpage frequently for updates. SUBJECT 9: National WIC Association (NWA) 2016 Calendars. The State WIC office plans to purchase the 2015 National WIC Association calendars. The order survey will be sent to local WIC coordinators during the week of April 12, 2015. The State Office appreciates your help with completing the survey by April 30, 2014 so that we will have enough calendars ordered and ready to ship out by November 2015. SUBJECT 10: Translated WIC Approved Food Lists. The new WIC approved food list is available in various languages (Arabic, Bosnian, Burmese, Chinese, English, Farsi, French, Hmong, Korean, Nepali, Romanian, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Ukrainian, Urdu and Vietnamese) through the WIC food website. JOB OPENING: Breastfeeding Peer Counselor - St. Charles County Health Department. The Saint Charles County Health Department is currently accepting applications for Breastfeeding Peer Counselor position within the WIC Program. The selected candidate will give basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers and help mothers achieve their own breastfeeding goals. Personal breastfeeding experience is required. Applications will be accepted on a continuing basis until the position is filled or a sufficient number of qualified candidates have applied. All applications must be submitted only through the Saint Charles County Self-Service Website at http://hr.sccmo.org/. Faxed, e-mailed or printed applications will not be accepted.
