SUBJECT 2: Summary of October 1, 2014 WIC Changes. Welcome to the new Federal Fiscal Year of 2015 that starts October 1, 2014. We want to highlight the changes that are effective October 1, 2014. Most of the changes are to be in compliance with the Final Food Rule; however other changes have to do with nutrition education and also the changes in formulas from the manufacturers that are ongoing. The attached is a summary of those changes. Included in each item on the list is the date of the WIC Weekly Update, if the message was included in a past WIC Weekly Update, so that you can go back to that update to read more about it. If you have questions, please discuss with your TA team. (ONE ATTACHMENT)

SUBJECT 4: University of Minnesota National Maternal Nutrition Intensive Course Seminar Telecast. Nutrition Education Opportunity: WIC Registered Dietitians, Nutritionists, and Public Health Nurses who serve pre-conceptual, pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women will want to take advantage of this full two-day National Maternal Nutrition Intensive Course Seminar shown on November 20-21, 2014 in Jefferson City. This year's continuing education program focuses on Substance Use, Nutrition and Maternal-Fetal Health; Substance Use Resource for Working with Pregnant and Postpartum Women; FASD: From Screening to Assessment; Street Drug Use Among Pregnant Women; Introducing Solid Food - Spoon-Fed, Baby-led - Which is Best?; Predictors of Obesity Among 4 Year Old Children; Neonatal Nutrition, Growth, and Neurodevelopment; Substance Use and Depression in Postpartum Women; Nutrition, Obesity and Male Reproductive Health; and Motivational Counseling: New Techniques. This training is presented by the University of Minnesota’s School of Public Health and will be shown by WICNS’ Nutrition Training Institute. Space is limited to 30 participants. JOB OPPORTUNITY: Nutritionist - City of St. Joseph Health Department. This position assists with administering the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program while following the policies and procedures established by the federal and state government and participates in the development and implementation of nutritional counseling and education for the local WIC Nutrition Program. No supervisory responsibilities, limited budgetary responsibilities, and coordinates nutrition and breastfeeding services provided to participants in the WIC Program. Minimum qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree in a nutrition related field with at least 15 semester hours in food and nutrition; including at least one course in diet therapy and one course in community nutrition. JOB OPPORTUNITY: WIC Nutritionist - St. Francois County. The St Francois County Health Center in Park Hills, MO, is looking to fill a full-time WIC Nutritionist position with benefits. This position will require a minimum qualification of Bachelor's degree in Public Health Nutrition, Dietetics, Food, Home Economics or closely related field from an accredited college or university, with a minimum of 15 earned credit hours in Food and Nutrition, including at least one course in diet therapy and one course in community nutrition or completion of an undergraduate curriculum in Nutrition or Dietetics in a program accredited or approved by the American Dietetic Association. Public Health experience preferred, but not required. A minimum of 1 year professional experience as a dietitian or nutritionist required. The ideal candidate must be dependable and self motivated.
