SUBJECT 1: MOWINS Food Changes. Attached, please find a memo which includes the changes that were made in MOWINS for October 1, 2014. Also, to clarify when a new food prescription must be added for existing participants:

SUBJECT 2: WIC Update Training. USDA/FNS recently conducted a Management Evaluation of Missouri WIC. The WIC State Office will provide two trainings to provide guidance on the Nutrition and Administrative findings. These WIC Update Trainings will be held early in 2015 at 8 locations throughout the state. The Nutrition portion of the Update Training is scheduled for January and February, 2015, and will focus on the nutrition portion of the Management Evaluation as well as provide information on Phase II of the USDA Final Food Rule. The Administrative training is scheduled for March, 2015, and will focus on the administrative portion of the Management Evaluations, as well as Program Integrity, future USDA Certification MEs and other topics. Information on scheduling and registration for the WIC Update Training will be provided at a later date

SUBJECT 3: Missouri Voter Registration Cards. DHSS has been working closely with the Missouri Secretary of State’s Office (SOS) in promoting Voter Registration in Missouri. Currently, voter registration cards are handed out by the local public health agencies (LPHAs). WIC client cards have the following version number in the bottom left corner: MO 231-0167 (WIC/MVR-1).

The SOS office would like to remind agencies that the version number for non-WIC applicants is MO 231-0169 (BVR-1). This card has been revised for the current voting year. If you have cards with the 2011-2012 voting year on the back please discard them and order new ones. Agencies are able to order postcards to make available to all visitors of their agency, both voter applications can be requested the same way (see attached form). These postcards will need to be filled out by the applicant and forwarded to the County Clerk’s office for the county in which the applicant resides. Please fax your request to the DHSS warehouse at 573-751-1574. (ONE ATTACHMENT)

SUBJECT 4: Basket Raffle for Missouri 2014 WIC Conference - Columbia, MO. "40 Years of WIC, Making A Difference" will be held October 19-21 at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia. The Missouri WIC Association will sponsor the Basket Raffle again this year. They would like to invite you to donate a basket to their 2014 Basket Raffle Fundraiser. The MO WIC Association is hoping to have over 40 baskets to raffle in honor of "40 Years of WIC" so be creative and we hope to see you at the Conference. Bring your basket to the Registration Table at the WIC Conference. SUBJECT 5: USDA Announces “Loving Support Award of Excellence”. The “Loving Support Award of Excellence” was developed to recognize and celebrate local WIC agencies that provide exemplary breastfeeding programs and support services. Local WIC agencies that have operated a peer counseling program for at least one year, which meets all of the required core components of the FNS Loving Support© Model for a successful peer counseling program, are eligible to apply.

The applications, instructions and frequently asked questions are available on the WIC Works Resource System. A webcast for applicants will be posted shortly and the award application website can be found at: http://wicworks.nal.usda.gov/breastfeeding/excellence-award-application.

This position assists with administering the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program while following the policies and procedures established by the federal and state government and participates in the development and implementation of nutritional counseling and education for the local WIC Nutrition Program. No supervisory responsibilities, limited budgetary responsibilities, and coordinates nutrition and breastfeeding services provided to participants in the WIC Program. Minimum qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree in a nutrition related field with at least 15 semester hours in food and nutrition; including at least one course in diet therapy and one course in community nutrition. This position will require a minimum qualification of Bachelor's degree in Public Health Nutrition, Dietetics, Food, Home Economics or closely related field from an accredited college or university, with a minimum of 15 earned credit hours in Food and Nutrition, including at least one course in diet therapy and one course in community nutrition or completion of an undergraduate curriculum in Nutrition or Dietetics in a program accredited or approved by the American Dietetic Association. Public Health experience preferred, but not required. A minimum of 1 year professional experience as a dietitian or nutritionist required. The ideal candidate must be dependable and self motivated.
